| Yesterdayâs FSW Instagram Post featured teachers and staff as schoolchildren ourselves, and reflected on how much we have changed over time.
My mum told me this is her favourite photo of me. It almost makes me look sweet, untroubled, and well-behaved. I suspect, however, that âwell-behavedâ did not appear too often on my report cards.
Not that I was nasty or physical in any way. I never set out to disrespect a teacher. In my childhood mind, disrespect meant calling a teacher a bad name, or worse. I had not yet worked out that constant talking, âextendedâ recesses, and the occasional eraser thrown across the room might also qualify.

Annual Vision Screening - This week!! |
On Tuesday, October 6th, the Wilmington Lions Club will be on campus to offer free vision screenings to all students. If you choose to opt in, the screening will provide a digital reading of your childâs eyes. No physical contact is made with your child and eye drops are not necessary.
If nothing is returned, it is a "pass". Otherwise, a paper will be sent home indicating "refer," meaning a vision concern was noticed and there is a suggestion to visit an eye care professional. This can be an important first step for early detection of possible vision conditions.
Children already with glasses can do the screening with their glasses to check that it is the proper prescription. The Lions Club only keeps a tally of results; they do not retain any of your childâs information.Â
If you would like to opt into the screening, please REGISTER HERE. This registration will give electronic consent for participation.Â

Monthly Tips for Friends Families |
For decades, parents and their students have experienced nightly homework battles, frustrations, and various levels of success or failures. This isnât the case with all families, but in my experience, a great majority of families will feel this pressure at some point in their childâs education.
Our goal at FSW is to try to minimize homework frustrations as much as possible, and to help you maintain a healthy and fun parent/child relationship without you feeling like a taskmaster. Let us do some of the heavy lifting for you and your student.
Your childâs teacher or advisor will ultimately be your best resource for homework questions, but here are 5 common homework roadblocks and possible solutions:Â

Book Character Parade and Fall Festival |
| Come one, come all to a favorite FSW tradition, the Book Character Parade!Â
On Wednesday, October 28th, students in Preschool through 4th grade get to come to school dressed as their most beloved book character, and you can witness the creativity as we proudly gallivant our costumes through campus.Â
The parade will start at 8:30 AM.Â
In order to prevent traffic through the parade route, Camellia Gate will close at 8:15 AM.Â
Parents coming on campus to watch the parade are advised to enter and exit through the Peiffer Gate, and park on the soccer field.Â
Later that afternoon, is Fall Festival!
Parent volunteers are essential for making Fall Festival a success, so follow the link below if you want to sign up.

Nothing beats seeing the butterfly life cycle unfold right in front of you! The students were captivated as Karen taught them about monarch butterfly life cycles, migration, and pollinator plants. Thank you, Karen, for sharing your time, warmth, and knowledge with the next generation of learners!Â
Did You Know? If a human baby grew at the same mind-blowing rate as a caterpillar, it would go from a 7-pound newborn to the size of a blue whale in just two weeks.
