Join us for a seminar on October 16 from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM CST as we discuss these and other topics impacting IP protection. 

At this seminar we'll cover the basics of the patent process, how IP relates to sponsored research, and how Texas A&M Innovation guides researchers through the often complicated world of intellectual property. Our featured speakers are Dr. Lekha Gopalakrishnan of Winstead PC's Intellectual Property Practice Group, Dr. Travis Young of Texas A&M Sponsored Research Services, and Ms. Janie Hurley of Texas A&M Innovation. Presentations will be followed by Q&A and the event will close with networking and refreshments.

Sixteen research teams from Texas A&M University were awarded more than $3.55 million from the Advancing Discovery to Market (ADM) program. Launched in February 2023, the ADM program was created to provide financial resources to support the development of Texas A&M research discoveries that demonstrate commercial potential. 

The program received funding from Texas A&M's Office of the President and the Texas A&M University System's Office of the Chancellor. ADM offers two award levels based on a discovery's maturity: Type 1 awards of $99,000 or less for very early discoveries that have not yet identified a specific market application, and Type 2 awards of $100,000-$500,000 for refining an innovation and advancing it to the marketplace. 

"These projects are representative of the potentially life-changing discoveries occurring in our research labs," said Pete ONeill, Chief Innovation Officer at The Texas A&M University System. "We are thrilled that Texas A&M has made this significant investment that will advance these innovations toward commercialization where they can benefit society."

Texas A&M Innovation extends congratulations to the ADM awardees and looks forward to supporting these inventors on their path to commercialization. 

Vishal M. Gohil is a Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics at Texas A&M University. His work on mitochondrial function and cellular copper regulation has led to a promising treatment option for copper deficiency disorders.
