Marie's Message

Hi All,
It was great to talk to so many of you at the Fair and see all of the wonderful exhibits. Congratulations to all of the 4-H members on their awesome achievements at the county fair. Also thanks to those of you that did interviews with Wade Bates (WBEV Radio) or with the Dodge County Supervisors who wanted to learn more about 4-H and the Fair.

I would like to thank Fair superintendents for your help over the week and especially for supporting the youth exhibiting what they have learned in the 4-H program this year.

Thanks for all of the wonderful 4-H volunteers who helped with building set up and cleanup, building watch, office support and those who lead fundraisers. The Fish Pond, Cream Puff and Silent Auction were wonderful this year. I appreciated all of the 4-H families who signed up and worked at the various other food stand fundraisers that contribute to the 4-H program.

For anyone I missed, THANK YOU for everything you do for 4-H and the Dodge County Fair!

With the end of the 4-H year just around the corner, the 4-H Leaders Executive Board made a decision regarding record books. Record books will continue to be optional, and the local clubs can continue to make their own requirements for youth to complete 4-H for the year. Youth who would like to complete record books are encouraged to do so. There will be a county level recognition as well. Each club can send no more than 10% of the junior members and no more than 10% of the senior members of their club to the County for record book evaluation. Each project is counted separately, and the overall record book is also counted separately in the ten percent. Clubs also need to provide volunteers who will sign up to judge the record books.

Hats Off...

...to Dodge County 4-H Volunteers Helen Weisensel (County Resource Leader) and Mary Crave (past 4-H volunteer & alumni) for being named to be inducted as a 4-H Laureate in the Wisconsin 4-H Hall of Fame. Laureates will be inducted at Fall Forum on November 5, 2022 at the Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids. Congratulations Helen and Mary!

...to Rose Lake (Juneau Victorians) and Melissa Lake (Juneau Victorians) who organized Recycling at the Fair with 4-H families and individuals. This Endowment grant-funded project involved picking up and separating recyclables each day at the Fair. It also included funding to place more recycling containers around the Fairgrounds.

...to all the 4-H Clubs and 4-H supporters who donated 4-H Silent Auction baskets during the Dodge County Fair. Below is the breakdown of baskets and the amount that each sold.

Annual Club & Group Financial Reports Due
September 1st

Each 4-H club and 4-H group is required to complete submit their annual financial report by
September 1st. Please submit to the Dodge County Extension Office.

Wisconsin 4-H Clubs & Groups Annual Financial Report (Fillable PDF);
Wisconsin 4-H Clubs & Groups Audit Checklist
A copy of the checkbook and/or savings registry covering July 1 – June 3
A copy of the bank statement ending June 30 or July 1 for each account. Any differences
between the bank statement(s) and the ending balance reported must be reconciled and
the reconciliation must be uploaded with the Annual Financial Report.
A current inventory of land, buildings, property, or project equipment with individual values
of $1,000 or greater.
Monthly Treasurer’s Reports for 4-H Clubs or Groups with annual income greater or equal
to $20,000.

This process allows the 4-H Club or Group to qualify for federal tax-exempt status under
the University of Wisconsin Board of Regents General Exemption Number (GEN) for
Wisconsin 4-H Clubs and Groups. Failure to submit a completed Wisconsin 4-H Clubs & Groups Annual Financial Repor and supporting documents by the due date could result in loss of tax-exempt status an forfeiture of all financial assets.

Become a 4-H Volunteer!

Are you interested in being a 4-H club leader or project leader? Or, perhaps you are interested in being a 4-H camp chaperone! Maybe you became an official 4-H volunteer many years ago and you are looking for a refresher on things that may have been updated since then. Well, you've come to the right place!

One of the first steps in becoming a registered 4-H volunteer with Extension is to attend this volunteer orientation called "Volunteers in Preparation." The orientation dates listed below will be offered virtually on a free video conferencing platform (Zoom).

Tuesday, August 30 -- 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 31 -- 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Nominations Open for 4-H Executive Board &
4-H Endowment Committee

Encourage club volunteers and youth members to serve on these leadership Boards! The 4-H
Executive Board members can only serve for two terms at a time, with a total of four years.
There are four vacant spots for the board next year and four vacant spots for the youth next
year. This rule is put in place so that the same people are not serving the board and new
opinions are being put out there. The youth have to be in 7th grade or higher in order to be
nominated.
