Commencement ceremony dates in 2024

To help graduating students and their families with travel planning, Portland State University is pleased to announce the dates and locations of commencement ceremonies in spring 2024:
  • The College of the Arts will hold its ceremonies on Friday, June 14, 2024
  • The School of Business on Saturday, June 15, 2024;
  • and all other schools and colleges on Sunday, June 16, 2024.

Community candlelight vigil planned for Tuesday

There will be a community vigil on Tuesday, Nov. 28 from 5 - 7 p.m. at Parkway North in Smith Memorial Student Union (SMSU). Hosted by the Associated Students of PSU (ASPSU) Student Advocacy Committee as a way to address the fear and distress many in the community are currently experiencing, this candlelight vigil is also an opportunity for people to receive support, make connections, and start the healing process.

Navigate the landscape of entrepreneurship

Coming January 2024, the PSU Center for Entrepreneurship will launch its inaugural track of ‘Everyday Entrepreneurs’ to run alongside our premier invention competition, Cleantech Challenge. Learn how to move from concept to creation with like-minded individuals. Learn how to navigate the landscape of entrepreneurship with guidance from professional mentors and PSUCE staff.
  • Cleantech Challenge: Do you have an idea for an innovative solution that will create outstanding social or environmental impact? Do you want to solve real-world problems to impact climate change or accessibility? Then the Cleantech Challenge is the perfect opportunity for you to bring your ideas to life with a development grant, mentorship, and workshops!
  • Everyday Entrepreneurs: Do you dream of starting a small business? Explore and test your unique business ideas with ‘Everyday Entrepreneurs’, a spinoff of the Cleantech Challenge, tailored just for students whose plans may not have an actual physical prototype, and prefer to focus more on developing a business model, a strategy for implementation, and the art of their pitch.
PSU undergraduates, graduates, postdocs, and alumni are invited to compete for cash and prizes! Applications due by Dec. 31.

Apply for the ASPSU Internship Class

Interested in learning more about student government and ways to impact change on campus and in the community? ASPSU offers an internship program during winter term of each academic year where students get to learn more about skills and topics which are critical to having a successful understanding of the civic and political processes. The Civic Leadership Development Internship course (PS 199) was created to foster early involvement within ASPSU and give the opportunity for class credit through increased understanding of organizing, participatory democracy, and student advocacy. Priority deadline is Nov. 27. Applicants will be notified of their acceptance by Dec. 1. If you have any questions email SALP ASPSU Adviser Madeline Frisk.

Take a break from deadlines and enjoy doughnut holes!

With fall term quickly coming to a close, the Transfer & Returning Student Resource Center (TRSRC) invites you to take a break from studying for finals and come visit our space on Wednesday, Nov. 29, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Meet our team face-to-face and enjoy some doughnut holes and hot beverages (coffee, tea, hot cider and cocoa). Bring your own reusable coffee mug to be entered into a drawing for a small gift from the TRSRC!

Hoops and hugs at the annual Teddy Bear Toss 

Cheer on PSU’s men’s basketball team as they take on the University of Portland Pilots on Nov. 28 at 7 p.m. at Viking Pavilion. Bring a stuffed animal to toss on the court for the second-annual Les Schwab Teddy Bear Toss and receive a voucher for discounted admission to a future Vikings basketball game. Faculty and staff can purchase discounted tickets.
