Our final Best of Film at Mason 2022 Showcase took place at the Sherwood Community Center in downtown Fairfax on October 27.  Many thanks to the student filmmakers for participating, Prof. Ben Steger for moderating, and the Sherwood Center for hosting!

Visiting Filmmakers Series

The Fall 2022 Visiting Filmmakers Series concluded on November 2 with a screening of the 2022 Emmy-nominated documentary, The Slow Hustle, followed by a lively Q&A with producer Mahrya MacIntire and FAVS Professor (and host) Rebekah Wingert-Jabi.
In addition, Mahrya MacIntire participated in an interview conducted by DKA. This Cameo Interview and the post-screening Q&A will soon be available to view on the Visiting Filmmakers Series webpage, at vfs.gmu.edu.

Fall 2022 Staged Reading & Pitch Event


On Tuesday, November 29, Film at Mason will host its Fall 2022 Staged Reading & Student Pitch Event.  The evening kicks off with an in-person reading of screenwriting student Sarah Strunk’s Capstone Project screenplay at 6:30pm, followed by in-person pitches by Professor Ben Steger’s FAVS 498 students at 7:30pm. Awards for digital and in-person pitches, decided by juries, will be announced at a ceremony at 9:00pm.
Come support FAVS students by attending this final department event of the semester.  Admission is free. Mason ID holders can register on Mason360. Bring your family and friends!

Faculty Achievement 

Professor Nikyatu Jusu (director of Sundance's 2022 Grand Jury Prize winner, Nanny) will be directing the new Night of the Living Dead sequel.  She's working with a screenplay by LaToya Morgan (The Walking Dead).  To learn more:  https://www.indiewire.com/2022/10/night-of-the-living-dead-sequel-nikyatu-jusu-1234776580/
