In the calculus of Christianity, Jesus>Moses.

Hebrews 3:5-6
“Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,” bearing witness to what would be spoken by God in the future.  But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are his house, if indeed we hold firmly to our confidence and the hope in which we glory.
New International Version (NIV)
Larry and Debbie Bertrand found a Christian store in Hawaii!  There they found T-shirts which say, “HE>i”.  In the calculus of Christianity, Jesus>Moses.  True, Moses was a meek man who became a friend of God.  In the history of Israel, no leader was greater than Moses who led God’s people out of captivity and into the promised land.  Still, when we read about his life, we see that he made mistakes along the way.  Writing to Hebrew Christians, the writer of this letter wants them to know that Jesus is greater than Moses like the builder of a house is greater than the house itself.
Moses was a servant in God’s house.  He spoke to God and then spoke to the people.  Often the people hardened their hearts against God’s word, and they had to take another lap in the wilderness.  Jesus is the Architect and Builder of the household of God.  We are God’s house as we take courage and remain confident in hope.  God lives among his people who make up the church.  Someday he will take us to live with him.
God spoke to Moses face-to-face in a tent.  But God speaks to us in our hearts because he lives in us as his house.  We are the Temple of the Holy Spirit.  Because we are even closer to God, Moses looked forward to our day.  Moses met Jesus on the mountain of Transfiguration, and saw Jesus in all of his glory.  After Moses and Elijah left,  Jesus spoke to Peter and James and John.  God still speaks through his Holy Spirit who lives in us.  Do we recognize his voice speaking in the scriptures and in the church?  What is Jesus saying to us today?  Today if we hear his voice, let us not harden our hearts.  Good news:  Jesus>anything you and I face today!
Pray with me:
Father, show us the supremacy of your perfect Son.  Continue to conform us to his likeness today.  Make us into the people you want us to be.  Clean out our ears so that we may hear your voice clearly.  Soften our hearts so that we obey, in every way, today.  In Jesus’ name.  Amen.
