1 John 4:4
You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
New International Version (NIV)
Merry Christmas!  How does the world look as you awaken on Christmas morning?  Is the world at peace?  Not exactly.  We may feel like the words of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem, “’There is no peace on earth,’ I said.  For hate is strong and mocks the song of peace on earth, good will to men.”
The early believers were not in charge of the world, but they knew they served the God who is in charge of the world.  John writes to remind them that God is not only with them but in them.  He is not only great, but greater than the one who is in the world.  Good is greater than evil.  Love is greater than hate.  Peace is greater than conflict.  Our God is greater.   Let us rejoice with the final stanza of Longfellow’s poem:
Then pealed the bells more loud and deep
God is not dead, nor doth he sleep
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.
Pray with me:
Father, remind us on this Christmas day that your coming into the world, coming into our homes and into our lives means that you are greater.  In the calculation of the Cosmos you are always “greater than . . .”  Forgive us for seeing you as small or disinterested.  Let the truth of your incarnation fill our hearts and our homes as we confess with your people through the ages, “Jesus Christ is Lord.”  In his name we pray.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
