Can we believe the stories of the Bible are true? Some years ago, archaeologists announced they had found an ancient gospel which revealed Judas Iscariot was really a good man and had been maligned falsely. Bart Ehrmann and other skeptics quickly announced that the translation of this document would prove the four gospels in the Bible wrong.
Luke knew for sure that several had written gospels in his day. Some of them were wrong. Luke diligently researched the stories with eyewitnesses and recorded them so that Theophilus (one who loves God) could be certain. In these early chapters of his gospel, Luke tells us the ways God confirmed his good promises to his people.
When other scholars translated the new text, they discovered the translators had mistranslated the text. The claims of disproving Christianity were quickly laid up to rest by the scholarly community. Led by the Holy Spirit, the early church chose the true gospels. We can trust them in their unified portrayal of Jesus as the crucified and risen Messiah.
