Psalm 100:4-5
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
    and his courts with praise!
    Give thanks to him; bless his name!
For the Lord is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever,
    and his faithfulness to all generations.
New International Version (NIV)
               A. W. Tozer said,  "A grateful heart cannot be cynical." Imagine Thanksgiving day for the atheists who know they are grateful but have no one to thank.  The Psalmist invites us to enter God’s presence with thanksgiving and praise.  We worship every day as we live with thanksgiving.  Paul told the Philippians to pray with thanksgiving.  Gratitude becomes a beautiful way of life for Christ-followers.  We are forever thanking God for his goodness and kindness to us.  John Bunyan "Thanksgiving prevails with Him mightily."
                G.K. Chesterton defined thanksgiving by saying, "gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder."   For what are we most thankful today?  The Psalmist mentions three traits of God which lead to gratitude.  First, God is good.  We say in worship, “God is good, all the time.”  People are good some of the time.  Some of us are only good every once in a while.  But God is eternally good.  Second, God’s love lasts.  In our temporary world, things fade fast.  Not God’s love, though.  It endures forever.  Third, God’s faithfulness extends to all generations.  He is “immortally faithful,” as S. M. Lochridge loved to say.  Meister Eckhart wrote, "If the only prayer you said in your whole life was 'thank you' that would suffice.”
Pray with me:
Gracious Father, we enter your presence with thanksgiving and praise today.  Forgive our constant moaning and groaning about the inequities of life.  Make us truly thankful today for your goodness, love and faithfulness.  Let our gratitude shape our lives today, we pray.  Amen.
