Community Partner Highlight: Lewisburg Children's Museum (LCM)
Numbers & History:
We have 4 work study students and 3 regular weekly volunteers. We also have existing relationships with the Bucknell Chem Department for Munchkins and Pumpkins in the fall, Management 101, Foreign Language Teaching Assistants, Society of Women Engineers, and Student Government.
The partnership between Bucknell and LCM has existed from the beginning of the museum, so six years this month!
What the museum says about Bucknell partnerships:
"The many relationships to various groups on Bucknell's campus are essential to the museum providing quality programs to our community. We rely on student volunteers to create and execute many of our programs. The collaboration with the university provides us with needed support and we are looking forward to continuing to work with groups in the future!"
We are also starting a new program with the Samek in November and are looking forward to that opportunity.
A Current Project: Le Français en famille
The French & Francophone Studies Program will run once again this fall the program piloted by Professor Renée Gosson last year, Le Français en famille, in collaboration with the Lewisburg Children’s Museum and Bucknell University’s Department of Languages, Cultures & Linguistics.
Families will join French speakers (our two Teaching Assistants from France, Clémentine Houri and Lucia Vaquero, as well as two of our learners of French at Bucknell, Rebecca Heintzelman and Emma Olson) as they explore the Museum and learn the basics of the French language and culture. Topics include basic greetings, thematic vocabulary exposure, and simple phrases. Program recommended for families with children 3-8 years old.
We are always looking for volunteers and would encourage students to reach out. You can find opporuntines through Engaged Bucknell or reach out directly to Michelle Heintzelman at michelle@lewisburgchildrensmuseum.org
