Get Involved - Student Affairs Divisional Committees

Are you looking for a way to get involved in a Student Affairs Divisional committee? Are you interested in planning programs that will contribute to your professional development, and the development of your colleagues? If so, the SA Professional Development Committee is the place for you! We're looking for new members from a variety of offices and experience levels.
Please contact Liz Walsh (walshek@miamioh.edu) with questions or to express your interest. This is a great way to meet people from across the Division, and to use your creativity to help all of us continue to grow in the field.
Volunteer to facilitate "Good Neighbor" meetings
Last year, in a partnership with the City of Oxford, Miami instituted a new policy holding students accountable for citations related to litter, noise, and nuisance parties. The goal is to help students reflect on what it means to be a good community member and to reduce some of the behaviors associated with high-risk alcohol use off-campus. After a first violation, the members of the house cited receive a letter jointly signed by Miami and the City of Oxford. For a second violation, a Miami staff member and a community member meet with the members of the house to have a conversation about being a good neighbor and “Love and Honor.” A third violation in a term is referred to OESCR.  We need staff volunteers to facilitate those in-person meetings for a second violation. We have found these to be good, reflective conversations with students, and they are a great professional development opportunity, too! You will receive training, and will always have a community member facilitating with you. To volunteer, please email Sherry Martin, hamptosl@miamioh.edu, preferably by Monday, October 2. Thank you in advance!
Parent and Family Programs Social Media Initiative
Parent & Family Programs recently launched a social media initiative, #TuesdayTips, designed to capitalize on the hard-earned experience of Miami parents/families by passing it along to families that come behind them. Parents/families were asked to submit their best tip(s) for other Miami families. PFP organized these tips and posts one (sometimes two) each Tuesday. Tips are meant to provide families with tangible and timely advice to assist them in supporting their student. Tips have been well received and generated great conversations among parents/families. Below are two recent tips. To view tips as they are posted, follow PFP on Twitter (@MiamiOH_Parents) or view the Twitter feed on the PFP website.
Elect Her Workshop
F-Word is looking for nominations to our inaugural Elect Her workshop. Elect Her is a half day workshop to train women to run for student government office and beyond. Students who are nominated will receive a personal invite to register. This program is open to students on all campuses (Oxford, Middletown, Hamilton, and VOA) and will take place on November 11, 2017.

Student Affairs Intranet

Student Affairs will soon have a staff member Intranet, for internal communication and resource-sharing in Student Affairs. We are looking now for early adopters to help us populate the site with missing resources (you'll see lots of gaps currently!) and expand the current offerings.
New ideas? Missing resources? Etc? Email Jen O'Brien (obrienjc@miamioh.edu) or Tim Kresse (kressetj@miamioh.edu) to submit ideas.

Tech Tip of the Week
From Jen O'Brien
TIP: See how much you were charged from PFD for work orders.
WHY: If you’re anything like me, you have put in work orders with Physical Facilities and then just considered it an unsolved mystery of much you were charged until something came up on your budget reports.
Mystery: solved!
HOW?   Visit PFD’s work order website at http://pfdwtmap03.it.muohio.edu/ and then type in your work order number (e.g. MT-###########) into the box on the left hand side of the screen. This number should have been provided to you via email when you submitted the request.
Some information about the work order will appear in the center of the page, although none of it will be related to how much was charged. Look in the top right corner of the page: click “view charges” for a real-time breakdown of the charges and how much was charged to your account. Voila!
