I’m looking forward to the District 5 Town Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. at St. Luke Christian Church, 1800 Sparkman Dr. NW. I will provide an update about issues concerning District 5 and, more importantly, it will be an opportunity where I can hear directly from residents about their thoughts and concerns. I hope to see you there.
Ribbon Cutting at The Grove at Indian Creek
The Grove at Indian Creek is a significant project for District 5 that meets a critical need: affordable housing designed for seniors. Hard work and partnership turned this project into reality. In particular, I want to thank Scott Erwin, the City’s Manager of Community Development, and Mary Ellen Judah, the CEO and Executive Director of Neighborhood Concepts Inc. for their dedication the project. I was also honored to share a few words at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for a facility that will provide a high quality of life and allow our seniors to live with independence and dignity.
I had a wonderful time connecting with residents at the We Phil Foundation Back to School event at the West Huntsville Recreation Center recently. There was a heartwarming turnout of families preparing for the upcoming school year and looking to receive information about hemophilia.
Congratulations to the We Phil Foundation on a successful event. I look forward to seeing even more special events like this take place in our very own recreation center.
Broadband Celebration at Rockhouse Landing
The residents at Rockhouse Landing celebrated getting access to broadband internet with a neighborhood cookout. This long-awaited installation will benefit families in southeastern Limestone County who call Huntsville home. I was happy to bring this to fruition through my collaboration with the Limestone County Commission and Commissioner Derrick Gatlin along with Spectrum and the residents who made their voices heard about this need. It’s a highlight of my job as a member of the City Council to respond to the needs of residents.
Huntsville Police Emphasizing School Zone Safety
As school goes back into session, Huntsville Police has launched an initiative to keep children and safety patrol aides safe by urging drivers to closely follow the speed limit in school zones. The project will run Aug. 5-31 and include additional officers in and around schools during peak traffic hours. Let’s all make an extra effort to use caution this school year.
Giving Strength to Young Women
The City Council will vote on a $10,000 allocation to Aum Foundation – a Huntsville-based organization that empowers young women – from the District 5 Council Improvement Funds at its Aug. 13 meeting. The funds will go toward Pathway 2 Success Program – specifically ACT prep, laptops, calculators and scholarships.
