Back to School Planning
Dear St. Michael's families,
I hope this note finds you and your family enjoying some summertime fun with each other and loved ones. With the calendar turned to August, I wanted to reach out to make sure that you had everything you will need whenever your mind begins to think about Back to School time. No rush, by all means, soak up all that summer has to offer. However, all around campus, faculty, staff, and friends of the School have been busily working to prepare for the 2018–19 school year as we become One.Together.  (We can't wait for you to see all of the exciting new campus changes!)
Below please find important updates and information. Please note that several more communications will be sent out in August for fall sports, co-curricular and hot lunch registration, as well as first week of school info, carpool instructions and more, so please stay tuned to your email.
As always, the folks in the School office are here to help. If you have questions, please reach out at 804-272-3514.
We look forward to seeing you in late August!

With warm regards,
Michael G. Turner
Head of School

Directory Updates Needed
Did you move this summer? Has your email or phone number changed? Do you want School communications to go to a particular email address?
Please send any changes by Friday, August 31, as we are finalizing the School directory. Returning families need only to review their current listing (in last year's directory) and forward all new/corrected information (e.g., address, email, phone numbers, etc.) to Erbie Godwin at egodwin@stmschool.net.
New families will be emailed separately to confirm contact info.
Academic Calendar for the 2018-2019 School Year
Click HERE to access a printable copy of the School's academic calendar (UPDATED as of AUGUST 8) for coming school year which contains the dates of important events, Back to School Nights and school early closings/holidays.
All school calendars are available on the School website under "News and Events/Calendar."
You may also subscribe to the following calendars so they feed to your own calendar program: Academic Calendar, Lower School Calendar, Middle School Calendar, plus all fall Middle School Sports calendars (Cross Country, Soccer and Field Hockey).
  • Click HERE to subscribe to calendar feeds (Subscription links are below the monthly calendar.)  Note: To subscribe, you need to subscribe to BOTH the ACADEMIC All-School Calendar AND either the Lower School or Middle School Calendar (or all three).
Teacher Assignments

  • Students and families will find out their teacher assignments at Orientation.
  • We strongly encourage ALL families to attend orientation given new carpool procedures and campus changes for this school year.

Carpool Planning
  • Families will receive carpool maps and assigned carpool loops at Orientation.

  • If your family is part of an organized carpool, we need you to submit your carpool information to the School via the form below NO LATER THAN noon on August 20 so participating families are assigned to the same carpool loop.
  • The new campus changes necessitate new carpool routines, and a lot of thought has gone into our carpool procedures. We ask for your patience, support and understanding as folks learn new patterns and routines. Thank you!

Hot Lunch
St M offers families the opportunity to purchase hot lunch. I'm happy to announce we have partnered again with the following vendors: Ellwood Thompson's, Jason's Deli, Frank's Ristorante and Chick-fil-A.
  • Due to the company's commitment to and experience with providing healthy food that kids will actually eat with minimal ecological impact, Elwood Thompson's will serve as the primary vendor again this year (Wednesday-Friday.)
  • Jason's Deli will offer an expanded menu on Mondays. Frank’s Ristorante will continue as our vendor for the popular Tuesday pizza days. Chick-fil-A will be available one day a month as a treat.
  • Families will be able to select and pay for meals online, and have a digital record of their order.
A separate email will arrive later in August with further details on the program, as well as details on signing up at https://www.boonli.com/.
**NEW THIS YEAR: Hot Lunch ordering will be done by SEASON (fall, winter, spring) vs. monthly.
Class Calendars
In a few weeks, you will receive an email from SMPA president, Ashley Templeton, asking you to sign up for various volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
In addition, you will receive an invitation to a grade-level social gathering/calendar meeting– a chance to meet and mingle with the parents of your child’s classmates as well as to finalize class calendars and volunteer scheduling.
Please be sure to reply promptly and thoughtfully to these volunteer requests because your time, talent, treasure and friendship are main ingredients in the magic of St. Michael's strong community.
