End of Semester Bowling Event

L@s GANAS will be hosting our end of semester event at the UIC bowling alley! This is a celebration that will allow you to unwind and participate in a fun activity with friends and faculty before the start of finals week.

The event will take place on Friday, December 7^th from 12pm – 2:00pm at the UIC Bowling Alley. We will be providing pizza and drinks, so you don’t want to miss out.

In Search of Belonging

In Search of Belonging... explores the ways Latina/o audiences in general, and women in particular, make sense of and engage both mainstream and Spanish-language media. Jillian M. Báez’seye-opening ethnographic analysis draws on the experiences of a diverse group of Latinas in Chicago. Báez’s personal interactions and research merge to create a fascinating portrait, one that privileges the perspectives of the women themselves as they

consume media in complex, unpredictable ways.

Fighting Back, Farming, and Freedom

Join Hull-House and the American Association of University Women (AAUW) for a celebration of women who stood up for democracy and took action. Watch a screening of Dolores (2017), a documentary about United Farm Workers co-founder, Dolores Huerta. After the film take part in a discussion led by Jelena Radovic-Fanta, a 2018 AAUW Fellow and scholar focusing on the endurance and resilience of female seasonal agricultural workers in Chile, and Nadia Sol “Ireri” Unzueta Carrasco, Heritage Garden Educator at the Rafael Cintrón Ortiz Latino Cultural Center, UIC.
