GW American Medical Physiology Club (AMPC) Summer Mentorship
Are you interested in pre-health mentoring? Do you want guidance with course registration and a 4-year plan? Or do you have general pre-health-related questions? Join us on Monday, June 30th, for an introduction to AMPC and our mentoring program. We will walk through course registration, show sample schedules, and provide an introduction to the largest student pre-health organization on campus. United Against Inequities in Disease (UAID)
United Against Inequities in Disease (UAID) is a 501(c)3 national nonprofit organization that empowers students to eliminate health inequities locally.
Members of UAID benefit from a number of opportunities including:
Training in health equity with an opportunity to earn a certificate
Training in designing, executing, and evaluating community health projects
Real-world experience working to reduce local health inequities
Leadership opportunities and development of professional skills required by most health professions programs (e.g., AAMC core competencies)
Experience writing research papers, creating research posters, and presenting research projects
Monthly mentorship opportunities with experts in public health
Fulfillment of academic credit, practicum, or capstone requirements

CULI 1810 - Fundamentals of Culinary Medicine
Open for Fall 2025 registration! This elective blends hands-on cooking, nutrition science, and public health.
Imagine waking up to the smell of bubbling shakshuka or preparing a vibrant chimichurri shrimp dish with friends, all while learning how food choices impact long-term health. In this course, students gain practical cooking skills, a foundation in evidence-based nutrition, and a deeper understanding of the role food plays in health and community.
Students will:
Build confidence in the kitchen and learn how to create flexible, nutritious meals that suit their lifestyle and preferences
Develop a deeper understanding of how nutrition impacts personal and public health
Learn how to interpret and apply nutrition science in everyday life

Duties:
-Escorting, triaging, and preparing patients for examination.
-Scribing the visit using our electronic medical record, eDerm.
-Assisting with office procedures: biopsies, injections, excisions, cosmetic procedures, etc.
-Collecting and routing laboratory specimens.
-Cleaning, sterilizing, and preparing instruments per protocol.
-Securing patient information and maintaining patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records.
-Filling out insurance forms and prior authorizations.
-Relaying patient instructions as directed by the physician.
-Removing sutures and changing dressings. -Checking voicemails, phone calls, and emails throughout the day.
-Cleaning and stocking rooms throughout the day as needed.
-Adhering to professional standards, office policies and procedures.
-Helping patients by providing information, services, and assistance.

Part-Time Medical Assistant - NOVA Dermatology Specialists
The doctor is an OBGYN but is currently only practicing gynecology. The position entails checking in and checking out patients, bringing patients into exam rooms, taking patient medical histories and vitals, scheduling appointments, calling patients with results, assisting the doctor with procedures, calling in prescriptions into pharmacies, and processing lab samples. The candidate would be trained in all of the different tasks, so no prior medical assistant experience is necessary.
Employees at the office cycle through three different positions (check in, check out, and medical assistant), so the candidate would get exposure to many different aspects of the practice. This is an incredible learning opportunity for pre-health students to gain valuable clinical experience in a fast-paced and multifaceted medical office environment.
The candidate would ideally start as soon as possible and be willing to work full days (from about 8 AM to 5:00 PM) a few days a week, but times are flexible.

As a gap year intern, you will have the opportunity to:

Scribe/Document accurate clinical notes in the EMR, and prepare documents for prescriptions, imaging, and lab work
Assist with in-office tasks to ensure that all instruments and devices are properly cared for
We are looking for:
A team player who is engaged and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced environment
Excellent interpersonal skills with patients and staff
Ideally a two-year commitment, however we will consider one-year gap years on a case-by-case basis

Bridge year opportunity with Integrated Dermatology of Tidewater, Norfolk, Virginia
Integrated Dermatology’s Bridge Year Program offers recent college graduates the opportunity to work full-time as Medical Assistants in a private dermatology practice alongside board-certified dermatologists, physician assistants, and Mohs surgeons.
