Grant success
Congrats to A/Prof Meru Sheel who was awarded AUD121,997 by the Pacific Community (SPC) to conduct a Review of the Pacific Public Health Surveillance Network (PPHSN). The review will determine the impact and contribution of PPHSN to regional health security, achievement of IHR 2005 core capacities and identify opportunities for strengthening surveillance in the Pacific. Sydney ID investigators include Dr Rebecca Rocket and Prof Vitali Sintchenko along with Dr Adam Craig from University of Queensland and Dr Peta-Anne Zimmerman from Griffith University. In addition, Meru was also awarded AUD AU$207,550.26 by the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade under the Australian Expert Technical Assistance Program for Regional COVID-19 Vaccine Access: Policy, Planning and Implementation (AETAP – PPI) initiative to lead an Evaluation of the Immunisation Register in Lao PDR. The team includes Dr Jessica Hall, Dr Gemma Saravanos, Ms Cyra Patel, Dr Niramonh Chanlivong, Dr Praveena Gunaratnam, Dr Carolina Danovaro along with collaborators from the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance. Working in partnership with the Ministry of Health, UNICEF and the WHO, the project identify opportunities to improve immunisation data for decision-making, programme monitoring, design strategies for vaccine uptake and promote health system strengthening.
Congrats to Dr Kerrie Wiley (Sydney ID) and Dr Tanya Forde (University of Glasgow) for their successful University of Sydney – University of Glasgow Ignition Grants. A total of AUD18,045 was awarded for their application entitled 'Towards sustainable aquaculture: Assessing priority diseases, diagnostic needs, and knowledge, attitudes and practices around vaccination in the aquaculture industry in Tanzania'.
