1 Kings 3:5-9
5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, “Ask for whatever you want me to give you.”  6 Solomon answered, “You have shown great kindness to your servant, my father David, because he was faithful to you and righteous and upright in heart. You have continued this great kindness to him and have given him a son to sit on his throne this very day.  7 “Now, Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of my father David. But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties. 8 Your servant is here among the people you have chosen, a great people, too numerous to count or number. 9 So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?”
New International Version (NIV)
What do we want God to do for us?  What if he did it?  A friend said to me, "If God made me a billionaire I would help so many people."  I believe him.
I ask the questions because God asked Solomon.  (Later Jesus asked the same question of a blind man.)  God gave Solomon a blank check.  He could have asked God for anything.  Solomon asked God for wisdom.  God gave it to him.
God wants to give wisdom to us, too.  James said, "If anyone lacks wisdom, you should ask God who gives generously to all. . ." (James 1:3-4). God's wisdom is more valuable than a billion dollars.  Everyone needs it.  If we ask him he will give it.  Ask and you will receive.  Use it to help others.
Pray with me:
Father, we have never needed your wisdom more.  What we know not, teach us.  What we have not, give us.  What we are not, make us.  In Jesus' name.  Amen.
Our 2022 Every Day with Jesus readings will cover the whole Bible in one year.  Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
We would love for you to join us as we read through the Bible this year. In addition, I will continue my long-standing practice of reading one Psalm a day through the year.  As we journal together this year, Highlight a verse that stands out to you, Explain what it means, Apply that truth to your life and Respond to what you’ve read with an action or prayer.
Joyfully,
Duane
