But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ
New International Version (NIV)
Priority is not plural. Only in recent years have businesses and governments made this word plural. It means something which is prior or comes first. Even in our day of participation trophies we realize only one thing can be truly first.
Knowing Christ became Paul's highest priority. What about his Hebrew heritage and accomplishments as a Pharisee? These things were not bad, but they could not compare to knowing Christ. Paul took his successes and failures and placed them all below knowing Christ as his Lord.
Jesus has always been first. He was first in creation. He is first in salvation. So what is your priority today? You only get one. There is a right answer to this question. Know Christ! Put him first. Watch God add everything else you need.
Pray with me:
Father, at the beginning of the day, I abdicate Lordship of my own life and surrender to the only One who is first. Be first in my thoughts, my words and my actions today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses. You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/. As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
Duane
