CMU Portugal has an open call for up to 12 Ph.D. scholarships until June 15th, 2025, under the Affiliated Ph.D. Programs. This initiative is addressed at students who wish to study at a Portuguese University with a research period at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) up to one year.

The Calls for Applications for the CMU Portugal Mobility Initiatives - Visiting Faculty & Researchers and Visiting Students - are open until June 17th, 2025, under the scope of the CMU Portugal Program with the support of Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). These initiatives allow faculty members, researchers, and MSc students or recent graduates to spend between 2 weeks and 2 months at Carnegie Mellon University.

CMU Portugal Patient Innovation In-person Residency Recap |
Six teams from the Patient Innovation Bootcamp took part in a U.S. market-focused residency at CMU on April 7–11, through the CMU Portugal Patient Innovation Accelerator. The program concluded with a workshop on June 5–6 at Nova Medical School, where teams shared their commercialization plans with expert feedback.

| CMU Portugal students win Best Paper Award at international workshop |
The paper “Are Large Language Models memorizing bug benchmarks?” co-authored by CMU Portugal Dual Ph.D. students in Software Engineering, Catarina Gamboa, Cláudia Mamede, Daniel Ramos, and Paulo Canelas, received the Best Paper Award at the 2nd International Workshop on Large Language Models for Code (LLM4Code), which took place on May 3rd in Ottawa, Canada.

José M. F. Moura, Philip L., and Marsha Dowd University Professor and director of the CMU Portugal Program at Carnegie Mellon University, was awarded the IEEE Haraden Pratt Award “for sustained leadership, global service, and outstanding contributions enabling new opportunities for IEEE and its members”.

The “Cientista Regressa à Escola” (Same Hometown Programme), an initiative by Native Scientists, featured the participation of CMU Portugal Scientific Director Paulo Marques, who was challenged to return to his roots and visit his former primary school to inspire young students through hands-on science workshops.
