The Saklan School. Pre-K Through 8. think. act. live
Dear Parents,

As many of you probably know, last week, Contra Costa County Health (CCCH) announced they would begin accepting waivers for in-person learning for grades K-6. They followed that press release with a meeting with schools detailing the steps needed to submit the waiver. The process is detailed and complex and involves CCCH, Contra Costa County Office of Education, and the State. Saklan has already done the work to meet or exceed most of the county's requirements. Presently, we are in the middle of pulling together the paperwork needed to submit the waiver. If all goes well, we would expect to hear from the county by the middle of September. There is no guarantee that the waiver will be granted as infection rates may change, or the county may ask for further clarification of our measures.

To help students, parents, and teachers plan, Saklan will continue with our distance learning program until at least September 25th. When we learn more from the county regarding our waiver (or in the event the state allows schools to open), we will give everyone ample notice regarding our transition back to campus.

It is important to note that the waiver may only apply to specific grade levels, or that we may choose to phase in grade levels to ensure the community's health and safety. Lastly, the waiver's granting does not mean the school will automatically open; we will consult with our COVID-19 Task Force and Board of Trustees for a final decision.

Your children are the lifeblood of the school; here is hoping that we can have them back on campus safely and engaged asap.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Warm regards,
David
