Acts 7: 20-22
20 “At that time Moses was born, and he was no ordinary child. For three months he was cared for by his family. 21 When he was placed outside, Pharaoh’s daughter took him and brought him up as her own son. 22 Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.

New International Version (NIV)
I know God is up to something in our world. Just last week, he blessed one of our young couples with a new son. They named him Levi. I haven’t met Levi yet, but I know for sure God has plans for him. God is in favor of life. He created life and he continues to create people in his image.

In Israel, too, God began a great work by sending a baby. He was an extraordinary child born in extraordinary times. Pharaoh had pronounced a death sentence on Hebrew baby boys. God sent him anyway. Not only did God protect baby Moses, but he made sure that Moses found provision and education in Pharaoh’s own house.

When God wanted to save the world, he sent his own Son, Jesus. God had a great purpose for his Son. Paul would later tell the Galatians, “In the fullness of time, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law to redeem those who were under the law.” After hearing of Jesus’ birth from the Magi, Herod pronounced a death sentence on babies of Jesus’ age. But God protected the baby and through him saved all who believe. Our redemption story began with a baby.

I told my tailor Manuel that Easter is the “main event.” He asked, “But what about Christmas?” I answered, “Well without the coming of Christ at Christmas we would have no Easter. But if the resurrection had not happened, we never would have heard of Jesus’ birth. God’s baby boy grew up and fulfilled his purpose. We should worship him and love the children he is bringing into the world.

Pray with me:
Life-giving Father, thank you for sending your only Son for us. In this holiest week, may we set the Lord always before us so that we never forget that Jesus lived the life we should have lived and died the death we should have died. May our worship lead others to worship Jesus and come to know him as Lord of life.  In his holy name, we pray. Amen.
Our Monday through Friday devotionals will start in the book of Acts this year.  We will not hurry through the book.  We want to see what the Holy Spirit did in the early church so that we may discern what he is doing in us and through us.  Join us for these devotionals as we learn together about our King and his Kingdom in the world.

We also invite you to join us as we read through the Bible. Copies of the reading plan are available at Tallowood Baptist Church, or download your copy here:
