Psalm 42:11
Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
    my Savior and my God.

New International Version (NIV)
The truth of scripture sometimes transforms our whole trajectory in life.  As a college freshman, 1600 miles away from my parents and home, I sunk into a deep, discouraging depression.  My health failed, and my spirits waned.  The Great Physician used a good physician named Travis Lunceford to lift me out of my despair.

Dr. Lunceford prescribed medicine and then said, "I saw a sign on the way to work today.  It said, 'Happiness depends on happenings, but joy depends on Jesus.'"  He proceeded to remind me that my health issues were transitory but my Savior was eternal.

About that same time I found this Psalm.  I had discovered the first verse, "As the deer panteth for the water so my soul longeth after Thee."  Then I found this soul-talk.  "Why are you cast down?" This is a good question to ask our souls.  How would your soul answer today?  What is God's answer for a cast down soul?  Hope.  Hope in God.  David knew he would praise God again.  So will we.  Hope in God!

 Pray with me:
Father, speak to our souls about your hope until our souls sing for joy.   Remind us again of all of your promises that are perfectly fulfilled in Christ.  Be the “health of our countenances.”  You alone are our Savior and our God.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
I want to invite you to join me in memorizing 52 passages this year from the 2017 set of Fighter Verses.  You can find the Fighter Verses App at the App Store on your phones or via this link  http://fighterverses.com/the-verses/fighter-verses/As we study the Bible this year, let's look at each text and learn what it says about God.
Joyfully,
