Thank You Tallowood for Thirteen Years
by: Minister of Missions and Evangelism, Eddy Hallock
I have no idea where time has gone! I do know that the last 13 years have been amazing. God was so kind in allowing me to serve at Tallowood. You, dear people, are so kind in blessing my family’s life. Your friendship developed over the years is more precious than gold.
Tallowood through its financial giving and volunteerism makes ministry possible and multiplies its effect not only in our great city of Houston, but in Texas, USA and the world. We have seen hundreds commit their lives to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord over the years on our mission trips. You have been a facilitator in helping start over 30 churches that are sharing the gospel around the world. Tallowood allows 5 different ethnic people groups to meet on our campus in their own native language. These churches are a blessing. We are also privileged to have from 30-40 different nations who meet with the larger church on Sundays. Volunteers do a sensational work and have for years in the local prisons and youth facilities, as well as in the retirement villages scattered around our city and in the various mission centers of our city as well as MAM, WHAM, and others. Tallowood is one of just the few of 5000 Texas Baptist churches who continue faithfully to teach its children and teenagers missions through its historic established missions education programs.
Through these years missions has had as the core of its vision and goals to win people to Christ, teach our members how to get involved in personal evangelism and to make disciple makers. From this basis springs our ministries and we continue to reach the goals set out for missions in the 2020 quest of making relationships, making disciples and making an impact.
Great days are ahead for Tallowood. Cheryl Richardson will be leading the way. Seek to be involved. Let God’s passion be your passion and enjoy the journey forward guided by the Spirit of God and walking by His side.
Planting Churches: Dwelling Place Church, Seattle, WA
I just got back from a visit to our church plant in the area called Magnolia in Seattle. Wes and Adrienne Walls are our church planters and are doing a good job. Pray for them because Seattle is a challenging city to reach for Christ. People are skeptical of the gospel and many call themselves “secular do gooders!” Wes and Adrienne develop friendship in many different ways, take new friends to coffee or lunch and are able to establish relationships and share the good news of Christ.
Touching Lives Behind Bars
Jenny Berridge is one of our faithful members who ministers in the Youth Juvenile facilities 4 times per year. Normally, she says, “It feels like from the guards to the kids we are walking into a brick wall with very little interest.”
“However, this year as we went to Katy Hockley leadership academy we felt totally different. We prayed for the kids on the way, rebuked our enemy Satan and God rained down His presence in an amazing way. The power of the Spirit was working. Testimonies were powerful and Pastor John Downs spoke in the power of the Spirit. The kids were more receptive than normal. They dialogued, asked questions, were engaged and interested in the truth. We told them that this day was for them, not us. We told them we loved them, because they may never have heard those words. The response was very good."
Rosalind Carter, Facility Administrator HCLA sent an email saying, “Every year your church comes out and spreads a message of hope and salvation to our residents. I personally appreciate the time and effort you put into making Super Saturday a success and the residents enjoy it so much. You make this world a better place. Thank you all so much and we will see you all next year.”
Give to Impact Eternity This Christmas
Our Baptist denomination always emphasizes the importance of world missions at Christmas time by inviting its members to give joyfully to its mission to win thousands to Christ around the world. Your faithfulness has been felt around the world over the past many years. Please consider giving a good offering so that the name of the One we celebrate at Christmas – Jesus – be proclaimed across land, sea, mountain, valley, desert, and every place on this globe. You can give to either the International Mission Board, Cooperative Baptist Fellowship or split your gift among both. Envelopes are in the pews. Choose today to give.
International Ministry at Tallowood
The five ethnic congregations would love for you to visit them. They meet on Sundays at various hours. Some could really use your help and encouragement. Contact our office and we will give you name and phone of the Pastors. We also have the International Friends Sunday School. De Ding does a remarkable job leading that department. They would love to have you play the piano or help by teaching or substitute teach. You have been wanting to get involved. This is your opportunity. Call the missions office for more information.
Disciple Making
One of my great joys is to encourage our church members in becoming disciple makers. The group that I meet with on a weekly basis has been amazing. We hear God stories from different ones during the week that revive our souls. What a great experience. We have several groups meeting in our church. Dana Dudley can connect you with a group that would be life changing. Just give her a call in the Prayer Office at 713.468.8241, ext. 8154
Cheryl Richardson
As I retire, Cheryl Richardson who has been Missions Associate for the last five years will be leading the Missions ministry at Tallowood. Bless her with your encouragement and action in 2018. Cheryl has done a great work at our church and will lead well this continued effort to win many people to Jesus Christ and make of them disciple makers.
