The holidays are just around the corner. In these last few days before Christmas, in the last few weeks of 2019, Brevard and Transylvania are warming up with wintry delights, ranging from truly one-of-a-kind shopping opportunities to outdoor adventures to places where you can settle in and warm up by a cozy fire.
Downtown Brevard is truly a winter wonderland this time of year, even if there’s not a single flake of snow on the ground. Stroll down our festive sidewalks through a dizzying array of local shops, boutiques, galleries and eateries, where you’ll find everything from priceless art to favorite new toys (for children of all ages) and just about everything in between.
Brevard’s Holiday Gallery Walk is an excellent opportunity to pick up some truly extraordinary last minute gifts, while also enjoying Downtown Brevard at peak holiday charm. Shops and galleries will be open late until 8 p.m., some serving wine and snacks, and offering up live music for your shopping pleasure. It’s a lovely way to stuff stockings and enjoy the best of the season in our truly charming downtown.
Shopping done, you might want to get in an adventure or two before taking a long winter’s nap. Winter is an underrated season for outdoor exploration. Verdant summer trails give way to spectacular views once the leaves have fallen.
Transylvania County’s myriad opportunities for hiking, cycling, fishing, and climbing continue to be available throughout the year. A little altitude is a great place to get perspective as you head into the New Year.
Settle down afterwards at one of
Transylvania’s many cozy inns, hotels, cabins and cottages, where you’ll find many a roaring fire and nook perfect for ringing in the holidays when the weather outside is frightful. You may still be able to score a top-notch Christmas tree from one of our local tree farms.
After the presents are unwrapped, it will be time to turn your attention to the New Year. You’ll probably want to make some resolutions (and maybe some reservations) for 2020. But before you get too serious about the future, join us to send out the old and welcome in the New Year in style. If you’re feeling fancy, consider an evening of dinner and dancing at the luxurious Greystone Inn up at Lake Toxaway’s
Cheers to the New Year Event. You might find a more raucous (though no less delightful) crowd at Oskar Blues’ 8th Annual
New Year’s Eve Hootenanny, where they’ll be serving up a fantastic line-up of live music and serious fun, as well as delicious food and great beer.
Happy Holidays!
