From cars, pickups, SUVs, and minivans stuffed to the brim and unloaded by students, families and Walsh faculty, staff, and coaches, to social events like the first-ever Friday Night Lights, Welcome Weekend 2023 was an exciting time to meet new people, find your way around campus and have fun!

Bishop to Celebrate Mass of the Holy Spirit with Cav Nation Friday |
To mark the opening of the academic year, Walsh University will welcome The Most Reverend David J. Bonnar, Bishop of the Youngstown Diocese, as Celebrant of the Mass of the Holy Spirit on Friday, August 25, from 10-11:15 a.m. in the Cecchini Center. Friday classes in the second time slot: 9:50 to 11:30 a.m. are cancelled. All other classes will run as usual. Everyone, regardless of their faith tradition, is encouraged to take part as we center ourselves on the new academic year and take to heart the importance of the spirit of truth, love, and mercy. (Please dress appropriately.)

The Tuesday after Labor Day, Walsh University will host four world leaders for an engaging conversation on world affairs and the national security interest of the United States. As a community partner grounded in advancing the public good, with a responsibility to inform and educate our fellow citizens, this free panel discussion, open to the public, contributes to our collective understanding of the world around us.
Our esteemed panelists are two former Supreme Allied Commanders Europe (SACEUR) and a British Ambassador in an engaging discussion moderated by the former National Security Advisor to a Vice President.
Philip M. Breedlove is a retired Four-star General of the United States Air Force and a proven strategic planner, motivational leader, and talented communicator. Highly decorated, he reached the pinnacle of the United States Military as one of six geographic Combatant Commanders and Supreme Allied Commander of NATO. Read More
Francis Campbell, a British diplomat and academic, joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) as a member of Her Majesty’s Diplomatic Service in 1997. From 1999-2003, he served on the staff of the then Prime Minister Tony Blair, first as a Policy Adviser and then as a Private Secretary to the Prime Minister. Read More
Tod D. Wolters is a retired United States Air Force Four-star General who last served as the commander of U.S. European Command and concurrently as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR). He was assigned to numerous operational command and staff positions and has completed nine overseas tours. Read More
Joseph R. Wood, Ph.D., serves at the University of Notre Dame Australia and has taught at the Institute of World Politics in Washington, D.C. as well as a variety of graduate seminars in Europe, focusing on moral and political philosophy. He is a retired Air Force colonel and served in the White House as Deputy National Security Advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney. Read More

The panel discussion will be followed by a short Q & A. Phi Alpha Theta, the Honor Society of History, will present this year's Constitution Day event on Monday, Sept. 18, at 3 p.m., in the Barrette Business and Community Center, Room C. Dr. Rachel Constance, an Associate Professor of History at Walsh University, will present "Forging Freedom: The Magna Carta's Lasting Legacy on the U.S. Constitution." Constitution Day, also known as Citizenship Day, is observed every year on September 17 (unless that date falls on the weekend) and is recognized as a federal holiday. Established by law in 2004, it celebrates the ratification of the United States Constitution, and honors all those who have become citizens either through naturalization or by coming of age.

The Blouin Scholars freshmen cohort recently visited Lighthouse Ministries and met Director Darin Nissley, an opportunity to learn and serve our community partners!
The University of San Diego Center for Restorative Justice featured Walsh University Professor Dr. Michelle Bemiller, one of the contributors to an article they are highlighting this month: "Restorative Pedagogy to Build Community in the Classroom: Autoethnographic Reflections from Faculty." Dr. Bemiller is also the Director of the Center for Restorative Justice and Community Health at Walsh University. Read More
David Maxwell, a senior Museum Studies student who previously interned at the Massillon Museum, was mentioned in an article in the Canton Repository for his part in researching and installing a new exhibition on Paul Brown at the Massillon Museum. Read More
