Clemson University is excited to host Family Weekend for the Spring semester on April 4-5. Family Weekend offers a chance to connect with students, other families and the Clemson community. Registration is available through Friday, March 28 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

This year's South Carolina Botanical Garden Spring Plant Sale starts next week on April 4-5 and will feature various plants, including hard-to-find native species, seasonal annuals and vegetable transplants. Early access to the Plant Sale begins April 4 from 2-6 p.m. for Friends of the Garden and is open to the public April 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

A grant from the National Science Foundation will fund a new University program called EMPOWERS (Evaluating Mentoring Practices for Optimal Work-life Balance in Education and Research in STEM Graduate Studies). The initiative will tackle long-standing challenges in graduate education, including the need for effective mentoring, addressing the increasing levels of student distress and augmenting professional development opportunities.

Special education was the focus of alumna Julie Butler’s life before it was a major she declared. Today, Butler is academic director and teacher at Trailhead Community Farm School, a nonprofit private school for middle school students with disabilities who have experienced difficulties achieving success in other academic settings. The College of Education caught up with Butler to discuss Trailhead and her life-changing experiences there.
