Good morning, Friends,
Today, I write to you with a deep sense of pride and humility. The generosity displayed by our community has been nothing short of extraordinary—though, in true FSW spirit, it’s hardly surprising.
I’m thrilled to share that, as of this morning, a box truck full of donations from Friends School of Wilmington is on its way to Western North Carolina.
Last Saturday, FSW parent Beverly Ward reached out, expressing her deep concern and sadness for her hometown community in Ashe County, as well as for the families within our own school impacted by Hurricane Helene. Since Tuesday, our community has rallied with such remarkable kindness, with many recalling the outpouring of support Wilmingtonians received after Hurricane Florence.
This week, Beverly connected me with local landscaper Lance Houck, owner of Terrain Masters LLC. Both Beverly and Lance grew up in Ashe County and attended the same high school. Ashe County, located in the northwestern corner of North Carolina, borders Virginia and Tennessee. It’s a remote area where residents are widely spread out. Thanks to Lance’s local connections, he will work with the Lansing Volunteer Fire Department to make sure your donations reach those in need.
