Coronavirus information 

Santa Barbara City College is coordinating with our County Department of Public Health to provide ongoing information and guidance. A team at the College meets regularly to review, update and implement protocols to respond to any impacts relating to COVID-19 (Coronavirus). We have created webpages on our college website with general information about the Coronavirus (including links to information from the county, the state and the Center for Disease Control) and with campus updates specific to SBCC. 

Stories from women leaders in the criminal justice system inspire students and community members

On the evening of March 5, in celebration of Women's History Month, Professor Anne Redding moderated a panel discussion featuring Santa Barbara District Attorney Joyce Dudley, Santa Barbara Superior Court Judge Von Deroian and Santa Barbara Police Chief Lori Luhnow. Vaqueros receive academic honors

SBCC's Women's Swimming/Diving team and Men's Golf team were named Scholar Team Award winners by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) for their performance in the classroom in the 2018-2019 school year. Our football team had eleven players named to the Southern California Football Association (SCFA) All-Academic Team, and Women's Basketball player Maaria Jaakkola was named to the CCCAA Scholar Athlete Honor Roll. Jennifer Vazquez honored by NSPE

At the 2020 National Engineering Week (NEW) Engineering Awards Banquet held on Feb. 20, computer science major Jennifer Vazquez was awarded a $1000 engineering scholorship. Founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in 1951, Engineering Week is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated engineering workforce in the future.

SHPE awards scholarships to three SBCC students.

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) SB awarded scholarships to SBCC students Mary Sy, Almendra Valenzuela, and Christian Pantzan Lopez during the SHPE student chapter meeting on Feb. 21. The awards were presented by Juan Ramirez, the academic chair for SHPE SB, Raytheon.

New misssion statement

The Board of Trustees approved our new mission statement at their Jan. 23 meeting. The new mission statement reads:
Santa Barbara City College welcomes all students. The College provides a diverse learning environment and opportunities for students to enrich their lives, advance their careers, complete certificates, earn associate degrees, and transfer to four-year institutions.
The College is committed to fostering an equitable, inclusive, respectful, participatory, and supportive community dedicated to the success of every student.

Spring break

Mar. 23-28 is spring break. No classes will be held and it was recently announced that the operations at all three SBCC campuses (Schott, Wake and Main campus on Cliff Drive) will be suspended through Mar. 29 due to the elevated threat of COVID-19 in the Santa Barbara area. Upcoming SBCC Board of Trustees Meeting 

The next meeting of the SBCC Board of Trustees is scheduled for Apr. 9, at 4 p.m. at the main campus in room A211. The agenda for Board Meetings can be found at least 72 hours prior to the meeting on the Board webpage.
