So what is this Hub Cap? It's a play on words that we have thought about ever since Pam Pennock's time in the Hub when her husband suggested we get baseball caps imprinted with the word Hub. We are using it here as the title of our new weekly Friday email. We will be sending you a recap of the week in all things teaching and learning, every Friday. These notes will share timely teaching tips, recent pedagogical scholarship, teaching events on and off campus, and Hub blog posts.
We hope you will appreciate these little notes ending your week with Hub tips and ideas. If you would prefer not to receive them, please use this form to unsubscribe. We will remove your email from our list. You are always welcome back!

Introducing Teaching Walk and Talks
First one: Thursday, September 1st at 11am in front of the EIC
Join Hub staff on a walk every first Thursday and every third Monday of the month from 11-12. We will meet in the garden in front of the EIC. Walking increases your creativity and productivity. Teaching Walks will be unstructured, informal time to talk about teaching. What issues are arising in your classes? How are your students this year? How are *you* this year?
Teaching Tips
First Week Activities
Classes start next week! Set the tone for the entire semester:
Michelle Miller's recent Chronicle advice article, Ungrading Light: 4 Simple Ways to Ease the Spotlight Off Points, offers ways to incorporate the ethos of ungrading without requiring a whole course redesign. Her tips get at one of the goals of ungrading: learning that is intrinsically motivated focusing on purpose rather than points. Bonus: her tips reduce stress for you (less grading!) and for your students while increasing their motivation.
And this article, Scanning students’ homes during remote testing is unconstitutional, judge says, confirms our campus decision to avoid e-proctoring. We were in the forefront of protecting our students' privacy and treating them equitably. And if you converted to authentic assessments, you may *already* be doing PBL.
