Back to School night was very well attended and I hope that you found the event informative. It was nice to see that so many parents/guardians attended, and reconnected with friends. I particularly enjoyed meeting families that I haven’t met interactive.
Thank you to the specialist teachers – Nikki, Mary, Derrick, Chris and Karen for participating in a panel presentation to share the goals and learning objectives of their course.
A HUGE thank you to our Book Fair volunteers! The book fair is a great way to get our readers and writers excited about new books! Thank you to all who shopped!
The Fun Run was fun for all ages of Elysian students. From the DJ music to the exercise the students got, the Fun Run was, well, fun! The Fun Run raised 10,500.00 funds for Elysian. We met our goal!
Thank you very much to Tara for organizing. We also thank those of you for sharing your thoughts and concerns about this new fundraiser and we have $10,500 that we didn’t have before!
We hope that some parents will organize the event for the students next year.
Basketball season is starting! We are gearing up for another season and more trophies to add to our overflowing cases. We are looking for parent volunteers to coach teams. If you are interested in coaching, please email me at susan.grierson@ecsnj.org
Look for a flyer to sign your child up with registration details – coming this week. Last week schools throughout the State of New Jersey participated in “The Week of Respect”.
Some class meeting discussions that took place at ELYSIAN:
• Grades K-1 - Discussed friendship skills, kindness and showing respect to one another through a class discussion.
• Grades 2- Students filled out an apple with ways they can show kindness to one another that will be added to a "Be Kind to the Core" bulletin board (grades 3, 4 and 5 also filled out an apple).
• Tara spoke to grades 3 - 8 and played Bullying Bingo. It was an opportunity to learn about different forms of bullying, the harmful effects of bullying and ways to cope with bullying. We explored the topics of empathy and compassion in combating bullying.
During the class discussions, Tara spoke about the HIB policy at Elysian and the procedure for reporting incidences of bullying. This included letting students know about the Anonymous Bullying Report Form that anyone can fill out and put in a lock box in front of her office.

The Friends of Elysian, the school’s parent-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit fundraising group, would like to invite you to our Annual Meeting TONIGHT in the school building at 6:30 PM in room 324.
At the Annual Meeting, we’ll provide a quick recap of last year, confirm and add new members, vote on board positions, and discuss plans for this year. We hope you can join us!
If you have any questions in advance of the meeting, or can’t attend but would like to get involved, please don’t hesitate to email us at friends@ecsnj.org

Trivia Night Fundraiser Ticket Info:
• Tickets are for Elysian parents only through Friday, October 26, after which, if any tickets are unsold, sales will be opened to non-Elysian friends, extended family, and the public.
• No tickets will be sold at the door since teams need to be set up in advance.
• Each team will be made up of six (6) members, but you can buy any number of tickets. Creating Teams:
You can put together a full team of six members yourself, either buying the tickets in one purchase or, if the tickets are bought separately, utilizing the registration form (or emailing us at friends@ecsnj.org) to list your team’s players.
You can also include less than six names, too, and we’ll add others to your team to round it out. Deadline for emailing all team preferences is Friday, November 2.
Teams will be created for everyone who buys a ticket. (In other words, you don’t need to come with your own six-member team. We’ll put people together.) We will do our best to accommodate team requests, but as it is first come, first served, please let your team members know that their spots are not guaranteed until payment is received.

| A note about attendance: The New Jersey State Law is very specific about school attendance. By law, children are expected to be in school every day unless they are ill. There is no room in the law or regulations to excuse any children who have prior plans. We must mark all children absent who are not in attendance.
