Stark Community Foundation created Immediate Impact Alerts to provide you with all the need-to-know information about our community’s greatest needs as well as a way to effectively and immediately respond.
Today's alert is focused on supporting local organizations responding to the rapidly-evolving outbreak of COVID-19 in our community.

The Need

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) – a respiratory illness that can spread from person-to-person – was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China in December 2019. Since then, the novel COVID-19 has rapidly spread into a growing number of other locations internationally, including the United States. There have been thousands of confirmed cases in the US and 50 in Ohio – including three right here in Stark County.
Across our community, it continues to be an increasingly difficult time for individuals, families and businesses. Schools are transitioning to online learning, events are being canceled, businesses have been forced to close, people are unable to work and many nonprofit organizations are experiencing unexpected financial challenges. Organizations are also seeing an increased need to provide emergency services to our community's most vulnerable neighbors.
The urgent health and economic needs continue to rise. This outbreak is undoubtedly impacting all residents in Stark County and beyond.

The Response
Stark Community Foundation, Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton and other local funders have joined forces to collectively and quickly respond to the needs of area organizations affected by the rapidly-evolving spread of COVID-19 in Stark County.
To help local funders stay informed of the growing need and to streamline the requests for financial support, a mini-grant application has been created to capture how organizations have been impacted by the COVID-19 outbreak. View a sample of the grant application »
Applications will be reviewed on an on-going basis and grants will be awarded to local organizations specifically for programs that provide:
  1. assistance to seniors
  2. childcare for first-responders
  3. emergency financial assistance (utilities, rent and mortgage assistance)
  4. food
  5. mental health services
  6. shelter
This funding opportunity is intended to fill needs that are currently not being addressed through federal, state and local governmental resources. While grants cannot be made directly to individuals and families, critical resources will be awarded to organizations that directly support neighbors in need. Local 501(c)(3) organizations, schools, churches and government entities responding to the spread of COVID-19 in our community are eligible to apply. Contact Anne Savastano, grants and operations manager at the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton, at asavastano@scfcanton.org or (330) 454-5800, ext. 304 for specific application instructions.
