Thank you for being a part of the Troegs Hop Dash, presented by Capital BlueCross! The East Shore Y and Troegs Brewing Company are excited for a great event! Please read through this email for important information about this event.
You may receive additional Hop Dash updates as we get closer to race day.
This is a rain or shine event. 
PACKET PICK-UP
There are two opportunities to get your race bib and race gear:
Friday, October 6th
  • Location: Fleet Feet Sports
  • Address: 6416 Carlisle Pike #700, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050 
  • Time: 12pm-8pm
  • Notes: Fleet Feet Sports is located in the same plaza as Wegmans and Target.
Saturday, October 7th (race day)
  • Location: State St (between Front and 2nd St) in downtown Harrisburg, set up on the sidewalk area adjacent to Little Amps (133 State St)  
    • Please note there is no parking at Little Amps
  • Time: 11am to 1:15pm (race starts at 1:30, so please don't cut it too close!)
  • Bag Drop: 
    • A bag drop will be available from 11am to 3pm (all bags must be picked up by 3pm). No large bags or duffle bags.
      • Please leave items of value (wallet, purse, etc.) locked in your car. Bags that not picked up will not be mailed out and must be picked up at the East Shore Y within one week.
OTHER PACKET PICKUP NOTES
  • Don't cut it too close! 
    • If you choose to pick up your race bib and swag on race day, please allow yourself extra time to find a place to park, get your bib/swag, and make it to the starting line in time (race starts at 1:30). 
  • Picking up for other participants
    • It is fine if you pick up for other participants. If you do pick up for multiple people, please make sure they know. Otherwise they might show up to packet pickup only to find their bib, shirt, and bag are gone.
  • All participants must get carded before the race on race day!
    • On race day, we will have a full staff of bartenders on hand from 11am to 1:15pm to card participants. Please stop by the packet pickup area on State St before the race to get your ID checked and a wristband - this will let us serve free beer much faster after the race!
COURSE (please read for updated course information)
The 2017 Hop Dash route now includes an exciting loop around restaurant row in downtown Harrisburg!

There will be volunteers and lead bikers to make sure you navigate the course correctly. You just need to show up and be ready for a great race!
Getting to the Start and Finish Line from State St
The new start and finish line will be located by the intersection of 3rd St and North St. It is just a short walk from the pre and post-race festivities on State St. 
From the packet pickup area:
  1. Walk up State St towards the base of the Capitol steps
  2. Turn left on 3rd St when you reach the Capitol steps
Course Closing Time - 2:30pm
  • Please note that the course will officially close at 2:30pm. Any participants still on the course at 2:30pm or possibly slightly prior will be asked to move to the sidewalk to finish the race. 
  • The timing mats will also be removed at 2:30pm. 
FREE BEER VOUCHERS AND BEING CARDED
All participants will receive two Troegs beer vouchers to use after the race. Bring a photo id with you.  
We made the beer vouchers SUPER easy to keep track of - they are pull-off tabs on the bottom of your race bib!
Following the race, all participants can receive two cans of beer, redeemable with the vouchers at the bottom of your race bib at the participant beer station. These vouchers on your race bib can only be used at the free beer station for participants. You cannot use your participant vouchers at the Troegs Draft Trailer, which will be onsite selling draft beer to participants and spectators. 
Get carded before the race on race day!
  • On race day, we will have a full staff of bartenders on State St from 11am to 1:15pm to card participants and give a wristband before the race begins. 
  • Please stop by the packet pickup area on State St before the race to get your ID checked and a hand stamp - this will let us serve free beer much faster after the race!
  • The more people get carded before the race means we can get your beer sooner after ther race! 
  • Spectators who will be buying beer at the Troegs Draft Trailer are also welcome to get carded prior to the event. 
POST-RACE PARTY
Following the race, the post-race party will begin for spectators on State Street between Front St and 2nd St (opposite side of State St from last year). This is open to the public so feel free to invite all of your friends and family to cheer you on and hang out with you after the race!

Attendees will be able to purchase beer from the Tröegs draft trailer and food from local food trucks! When the race is over, the award ceremony and costume contest will take place in the same area.

IMPORTANT: Please note that the participant beer vouchers at the bottom of your race bib cannot be redeemed at the Troegs Draft Trailer. They can only be redeemed at the participant beer area. 
RACE DAY SCHEDULE
11am-1:15pm - Packet pickup, ID check/hand stamp and free family activities
1:30pm - Race begins! 
2:30pm - Course closes
Approximately 2:45pm - Awards
Approximately 3pm - Best dressed contest 
4pm - End of the Hop Dash festivities!
PARKING OPTIONS
There are various parking locations available. There is not one specific location where all participants will be asked to park (similar to other large downtown events such as Kipona, St. Patricks Day Parade, etc.). Carpooling with other participants is always a good idea!
Here are a few parking ideas:
  • Parking Garages ($)
    • There closest parking garages that are open on the weekends are:
      • River St Garage (located at 218 North 2nd St, Harrisburg)
        • This lot has 850 spaces and is listed on the website as being open 24/7. If you use this lot, then you just have to walk north about .17 miles on 2nd St and you will come across State St, which is the location of packet pickup, port-o-potties, post-race festivities, etc. 
      • Walnut St Garage (located at 215 Walnut St, Harrisburg)
        • This lot has 1032 spaces and is listed on the website as being open 24/7. If you use this lot, you can arrive at the packet pickup area by walking to either 2nd or 3rd St and walking north about .31 miles, where you will then come across State St
      • Please note that the South St Garage will be closed for a private event. 
  • Street Parking ($)
    • Metered street parking is available in many places all over Harrisburg
    • Here is a list of the rates and other information about metered street parking:

      • NOTE: No parking on State St between 2nd and 3rd St (this will be the area for packet pick-up and the after-party).
  • City Island 
    • There is free parking available on City Island, which is a little over a 1/2 mile walk to the State St packet pick-up area. 
    ROAD CLOSURES
    Please note that the following roads used by the course will close around 1pm until approximately 2:45pm. If any of these roads impact the way you travel to the race, please make sure you arrive prior to 12:30pm.
    • 3rd St (between Forster St and Walnut St)
    • 7th St (between Walnut St and Forster St)
    • All roads within the Capitol Complex
    • State St Bridge (between 7th St to 13th St)
    State St (between Front St and Second St will be also closed from 10am to 4pm). 
    RACE TIMING
    All racers will be timed with disposable chip timing by FalconRaceTiming.com. The chip is secured on the back of your race bib (please double check and make sure you have the correct bib). Be sure to have your bib secured to the front of your body during the race, so it is clearly visible to race officials.
    This race will be mat timed, which means your timing chip will trigger twice (once when you cross the starting line mat and again at the finish line mat). Please make sure you cross both mats (otherwise you will not receive an official time). 
    RESULTS
    RACE PHOTOS
    Penn Images will be on hand taking pictures during the Hop Dash! The race pictures will be uploaded to their website at PennImages.com in the days following the event.
    BEST DRESSED CONTEST
    Come out to the Hop Dash in your BEST Troegs-inspired outfit! Each person who wants to enter the contest will be able to show off their Troegs-inspired outfit. The best dressed male and female participants will receive a $50 Troegs Gift card! This will be decided as part of the post-race festivities after the award ceremony, so be sure to stick around!
    PORT-O-JOHNS
    Port-o-johns will be available adjacent to the packet pick-up area. The units will be located near the intersection of Front St/State St - just look for the jumbotron and the port-o-johns will be nearby! Please do not use the bathroom inside of Little Amps Coffee. 
    There will not be additional port-o-johns at the starting line.
    SPECTATORS
    Spectators are welcome to come to this event! Bring the whole family! There will be games and activities along State St that will be fun for everyone. Please follow the same parking procedures as race participants.
    To watch the race, spectators can line up by the finish line area (near 3rd and North St) or by the Capitol steps on 3rd St. 
    This year's course will also go past restaurant row on 2nd St (between Walnut St and Pine St). The runners will pass this area twice, so it is a great place for spectators to hang out and watch the runners go by. Some other great places to watch the race go past restaurnt row are Arooga's, Stock's on 2nd, Federal Tap House, Zembie's, and The Brick Haus. 
    OTHER
    Strollers on the course: This is up to the discretion of the participant. There may be some parts of the road that are uneven, so please use extreme caution if you decide to push a stroller. While all roads around the course will be closed/coned off during the race, there is always a chance that there will be some residual traffic within the course, so please use caution if you push a stroller. 
    Do not leave State St with an Open Container. Our LCB permit only covers State St between Front St and 2nd St. Please not do not leave this area with an open container under any circumstances.
