Thank you for being a part of the 3rd Annual Karns Quality Foods Harrisburg Mudmash! Get ready for a fun mud run that winds through the woods just north of Harrisburg!
This email has important info about the event location, packet pick-up, what to bring, and more. Please take a minute to read through all the information. We may send additional communications as we get closer to race day. 
Due to our race staff being out of the office on Friday, we will be unable to return phone messages. Please email any questions prior to Friday to tom.gifford@ymcaharrisburg.org
Additional communications will be sent as necessary between now and race day.
How to Get to the Harrisburg Picnic Postal Grounds
Parking, start/finish, packet pick-up, and post-race activities will ALL be at the Harrisburg Picnic Postal Grounds.

The Harrisburg Picnic Postal Grounds is located 1.2 miles up Roberts Valley Rd after you turn from North Front St
Arrival and Packet Pick-up
FRIDAY "HAPPY HOUR" HEAT
  • Packet pick-up: Begins at 5:45pm at the Postal Grounds (in the pavilion).
  • Arrive at the Postal Grounds: Any time after 5:45pm.
SATURDAY - 9AM HEAT
  • Packet pick-up: Begins at 7:30am at the Postal Grounds (in the pavilion)
  • Arrive at the Postal Grounds: Any time after 7:30am
SATURDAY - 11:30AM HEAT
  • Packet pick-up: Begins at 10:30am
  • Arrive at the Postal Grounds: Any time after 10:30am
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your heat so you can park, get your packet/shirt, and be ready to go!
Bag drop. There will also be a bag drop at the packet pick-up area. Please leave all valuable items (wallet, purse, keys, etc.) in the car. 
Starting Time
Participants in the Friday, 7pm heat - please be at the starting line by 6:50pm 
Participants in the Saturday, 9am heat - please be at the starting line by 8:50am 
Participants in the Saturday, 11:30am heat - please be at the starting line by 11:20am
There will be a few minutes of announcements just before the event begins. The participants who want to run fast will line up and go off first. Young children and their families will go in the back of the pack.
The starting line and finish line are both at the Harrisburg Picnic Postal Grounds adjancent to the registration pavilion. 
Please note that this event will not be officially timed and there are no awards or finisher medals.
Rinsing Off and Changing
There will be a portable outdoor open shower and an area to rinse off after the event.
The shower will be outdoors and is not part of the bathrooms. 
Porta potties will be available. 
We will also have tents that will be designated as male and female changing areas. 
Please note there are no locker room facilities at the Postal Grounds. 
A Few Helpful Items to Bring
**Important**
  • Clothes that you don't mind throwing away 
    • Your clothes will get dirty and muddy! We do not advise wearing your Mudmash shirt while on the course. 
  • Swimming goggles
    • This will be helpful for making sure no mud gets in your eyes while going through the mud pits
    • This especially applies to anyone who wears contacts!
  • Supportive shoes that can get dirty!
    • With laces - make sure you tie your shoes tightly before the run begins!
    • There are various types of terriain on the course (it goes through the woods), so make sure you have shoes that can handle some "off-roading"
    • "Toe shoes" could work well too
  • ID
    • There will be a beer garden provided and sponsored by Wilsbach Distributors after the race
    • Be prepared to present your ID. Any participant who cannot present ID when requested will not be served at the Beer Garden
  • Towels that you can use afterwards (that you don't mind getting muddy)
    • Bringing a few towels with you is not a bad idea!
  • A garbage bag or something that can hold your muddy shoes and clothing
  • A change of clothes is also a good idea
  • Baby wipes to help wipe mud off your face afterwards (we will have outdoor showers too)
  • Ziplock bag - It is not recommended that you take your phone or camera on the course. If you do, make sure it is tightly sealed in a bag that is water proof. 
  • Hair tie. If you have long hair, make sure you have something to tie it with. 
  • Bug spray!
Beer Garden and Food
Beer Garden
  • There will be a beer garden at the Harrisburg Picnic Postal Grounds as part of the after-race festivities. Please make sure you bring your ID, this area is for any participants 21+
  • A special thanks to Wilsbach Distributors for providing and sponsoring the beer garden!
  • Bring some lawn chairs and blankets to hang out after the event!
Food
  • There will be light snacks after the race thanks to Karns Quality Foods and Kessler Nittany Lion Franks!
Mudmash Course Info
  • The overall length is approximately a 5k
  • There will be mud pits and obstacles (both natural and man made) throughout the course
    • Participants can skip any obstacles they choose
  • This scenic course will be on winding trails through the woods and includes some challenging hills and various types of terrain (some areas are rocky). It will feel like an adventure!
  • The course will be marked with arrow signs at turns and flagging tape throughout all the trails.
  • There will be a water station about halfway through the course
  • There will be eye wash stations as well
  • Volunteers and EMS will also be stationed on the course

Spectators
Spectators are welcome at this event. Spectators will be able to watch the start and end of the race from the Harrisburg Picnic Postal Grounds. Spectators are not permitted on the Mudmash course. 
Onsite Registration
There will be onsite registration available during all packet pickup times.
Onsite registration for the Happy Hour Heat will be $50.
Onsite registration for the Saturday heats will be $45 and $25 for kids between 8-12
