How well do you rest? My new fitbit tracks my sleep. It tells me how many times I was restless or awakened. We know our bodies need rest to heal and thrive. So do our souls. Where will we find rest for our souls? In our Maker!
David saw God as the exclusive Source of soul-rest. He rested in God because God gave him hope. His security, salvation and honor were all wrapped up in his relationship with God. Rest comes from trust in God our Rock. Because we run to God our Refuge, we can pour out our hearts to him. Take some time today to tell God who he is to you. These verses give us a good vocabulary of praise.
Jesus said, “Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest . . . take my yoke upon you and learn of me for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28-30). Augustine of Hippo prayed, “O God you have made us for yourself. We are restless until we find rest in you.” Rest is a good gift. Receive it today!
