The first session of summer code camps ended with fantastic feedback from participants and parents during the Friday night parent demonstration. 

The 12 middle schools girls who attended Code Like A Girl camp from June 3 -7 ended their weeklong learning experience with increased knowledge of coding, new friends, an extra dose of confidence in their capabilities, plus a robot they can continue to tinker with throughout the summer. 

On May 14, the Rutherford Works team joined together with the Learning Pathways team at Nissan and K-12 superintendents, community and technical college presidents and workforce development professionals from Mississippi for a best practices summit. Topics included workforce and economic development programming, student internships, teacher externships, ACT readiness, soft skills gaps and methods for filling the talent pipeline. 

On June 3, 43 rising seniors started their first full week of the 2019 Rutherford Works summer internship program.

Employers from Bridgestone, Calsonic, City of Eagleville, City of Murfreesboro, Family Pet Health, Guaranty Trust, Ingram Content Group, Murfreesboro Electric, Murfreesboro Medical Clinic, Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation, MTSU, Nissan, Ole South, Roscoe Brown, Rutherford County Government, StoneCrest Tristar, Stones River Battlefield, Town of Smyrna and VIP Murfreesboro met with students for a pre-employment training session on May 31 to finalize details before students started their first week of work. Interns will spend 16 hours per week with their employer and 4 hours at the Chamber of Commerce on Fridays for work-based learning sessions throughout the month of June.
