Parenting Community Coordinator Laura MacGregor offers this free afternoon class Fridays through March 13. (No class on Feb. 20) There are easy crafts for children, more complicated ones for big kids and grown-ups, toys for pre-crafters and snacks and drinks for all. All are welcome; no registration required.

Citadel Securities’ annual PhD Summit is a highly selective professional development opportunity designed for PhD students and postdocs interested in quantitative research, trading, and data-driven problem solving in industry. A Citadel Securities representative will join the beginning of the session to provide a brief overview of the summit and share high-level guidance on the application process. Considering a career beyond the professoriate? This multipart series is designed for you. It will help you make confident decisions about your professional future, giving you hands-on experience connecting your values, interests, and strengths to specific careers in industry, non-profit, and government. By the end of the series, you will have identified at least two specific career pathways that speak to your interests and begin the process of making connections to practitioners in those fields. This workshop is designed to be participatory and conversational, and attendance at all sessions is strongly encouraged. You must be a current UChicago PhD student, Teaching Fellow, or Postdoc in AHD, SSD, or DIV to participate.

Turkish Lamps Workshop

Looking for a creative way to unwind this winter? Join the Graduate Council for a Turkish Lamps Workshop—an easy, hands-on evening of color, craft, and community. You’ll design your own Turkish mosaic piece using vibrant glass tiles and traditional patterns. When you register, choose between a mini table lamp or a mosaic candle holder (both limited). No experience needed; all materials are provided. Tickets on sale Friday, January 16 at 5:30 p.m.

Lightning Talk Opportunity: Tech For Good Conference 2026

China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) Graduate Student Delegation: March 14-22, 2026
Application deadline: Wednesday, February 4
Join a group of ~20 UChicago graduate students to explore China and engage with Chinese leaders through visits to political, business, technological, and cultural organizations. Participants are responsible for paying their own airfare, travel insurance, overweight baggage, visa fee, and spending money. CUSEF covers hotel accommodations, most meals, and transportation costs within China. Selected applicants will be required to submit a 500-word reflection paper and a two-minute video after the trip. Eligibility: full-time UChicago graduate students who are interested in China and have never visited.
