"All the world's a stage" wrote William Shakespeare in his comedy, As You Like It. From class plays, musical performances and living history events to public speaking classes, debates, student-led chapels and more, St. Michael's strives to provide our students with ample opportunities to take to the stage.
These crucial experiences grow presentation skills, build confidence and help our students find their voices and share their unique insights, talents and gifts. As well, this acquired poise and increased command of public speaking will not only help them in school but also empower them in any situation they encounter in life and on the world's stage.
Stage performances also encourage students to be: - open-minded (and receptive to new ideas)
- caring (with the audience supporting the effort and courage required to get on stage)
- and risk-takers (willing to "have a go" at new experiences).
Not surprisingly, these are all traits of our International Baccalaureate learner profile. It was a privilege this week to watch our third graders perform in their annual Variety Show and our Middle Schoolers showcase their talents in our inaugural "Open Mike" event. Bravo!! Be sure to check out our St M FACEBOOK and TWITTER pages for this week's posts on St. Michael's culture, curriculum, community and stage performances.
