Changes to the minor in Applied Linguistics starting Fall 2021

Starting this fall, the minor in Applied Linguistics becomes more flexible. Students tailor their program with the guidance of the Applied Linguistics faculty advisor. With only one required course, the other 24 credits are electives and can include a linguistics-related course in another department such as World Languages or Computer Science. For more details and information about advising, check our website:

Multi-step diversity, equity, and inclusion initiative implemented this spring

In Applied Linguistics, we often study the connection between language and issues of equity, inclusion, and diversity in societies. But we don't want to only study these connections. We want our values reflected in our department. In spring 2021, we have therefore started a multi-step diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiative to help us attract diverse students to our programs and to increase the inclusive, equitable experience that all students have once they are in the department. Read more about the department's DEI plan here: https://www.pdx.edu/applied-linguistics/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-initiative-applied-linguistics.

Nattinger Scholarship contributions off to a great start for PSU's Day of Giving Fundraiser

Dr. Beatrice Oshika, former department member, started the fundraising challenge with a significant gift. This year, the department is honoring the memory of Professor Tucker Childs in an effort towards his wish for the Nattinger scholarship to fully cover the recipient's tuition.
No donation amount is too small. Help us reach the $15K goal by May 8th.
