Time: 7:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
From July to September, Houston's Purple Martins spend most of the day feeding on flying insects to build energy for their long journey across the Gulf of Mexico. At dusk, they form large flocks and roost together in preparation for migration. For the dates above, Houston Audubon, along with CenterPoint Energy, will be presenting Purple Martin Watch Parties in open areas near these roosts to witness the spectacle! We need volunteers to join us at these parties to visit with guests and pass out information about purple martins and powerline safety.
Seeking new bird survey leaders
Once Per Month - Day of month negotiable
Kickerillo and Archbishop Fiorenza Surveys
Each month, Houston Audubon leads 18 Bird Surveys around the greater Houston area. During these walks, survey leaders keep an eBird checklist, lead the group around the route, and help new attendees try their hand at birding. Presently, Houston Audubon needs new leaders for our Kickerillo and Archbishop Fiorenza surveys. The opportunity is best fit for someone who has experience birding and enjoys introducing others to the activity as leaders also handle all communications with participants. Surveys must include a leader and co-leader so this is also a good opportunity for couples or friends!
