What a S2N City Looks Like!
FaithAction ID Community Partnerships!
We never could have dreamed two years ago that the FaithAction ID program would grow to reach over 2,500 residents, and gain the support of so many awesome communtiy partners including local law enforcement and emergency services, city libraries, the municipal credit union, water, housing, and parks and recreation departments, human relations staff, health centers, and schools.  The card has provided residents who many not otherwise have access to government issued forms of identification a valid form of ID, providing much needed access to community services and opportunties, and a greater sense of dignity and belonging in the city we all call home.  This has led to a safer, more inclsuive community for all residents.  We are thrilled to announce that we now have several new community partners on board, each giving their own special discount or benefit to ID card holders including: the International Civil Rights Museum, Greensboro Children's Museum, YMCA, Community Theater of Greensboro, Deep Roots Market, Scuppernog Books, Zaytoon's Restaurant, Nazareth Bakery, Manny's Cafe, Kiosco Mexican Grill, Chapman Law Firm, Santos Counseling, La Esperanza Tienda, and many more are coming soon.  The FaithAction ID benefits everyone in our community. Please contact Cristina Jacome at cristina@faihouse.org if you are interested in becoming our newest FaithAction ID community partner.
Meanwhile the FaithAction ID program has expanded and thrived in Alamance County, and cities from Winston Salem to Cincinnati have asked for our help in replicating a similar program, and national organizations have begun sharing the model with constituents across the country.  In the midst of a broken federal immigrant system and significant distrust between immigrant/minority communities and law enforcement, the FaithAction ID program is helping to pick up the pieces and restore trust at the local level, creating safer, more inclusive communities for all - this is what a Stranger to Neighbor city looks like.
Our next ID Drive for any resident will take place on Sunday, July 26th at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.  Doors will open at 1pm, and all participants must attend a mandatory orientation at 2pm.  Click here for more on the program and requirements.  All are welcome.
Peace,
The FaithAction Team
Stranger to Neighbor Dialogue - Body and Soul, July 30th!
Dance and movement can be found in nearly every culture and faith throughout the world. It is a universal, yet unique expression that guides us deeper into the human experience, and has the potential to connect us in ways that words cannot.  Join us for our summer Stranger to Neighbor event, hosted by Guilford Park Presbyterian Church (2100 Fernwood Drive) in Greensboro at 6pm, as new and long time neighbors come together to learn from a wonderfully diverse group of dance and movement artists, representing dances from Mexico, West Africa, Scotland, and the Middle East. Participants will also spend time eating together and sharing stories of how dance and movement can be used to build bridges among our diverse community … and perhaps even try out a new dance or two.  Space is limited, so please RSVP by clicking here today!

FaithAction Downtown Unity Walk - Saturday, August 29th!         Sadly our Downtown Unity Walk was cancelled in June due to weather.  We are very happy to announce however that it has been rescheduled for Saturday, August 29th!  Participants will gather at FaithAction (705 N. Greene Street, just north of downtown) at 3:30pm, and then begin walking at 4:30pm through downtown Greensboro.  We will stop outside the International Civil Rights Museum and celebrate our diversity with dance performances, and then end the walk with an interfaith vigil and virtual postcard pictures that will be sent to our elected officials - reaffirming our commitment to changes in our immigration system, while ensuring justice, dignity, and equality for all religious, cultural, and minority communtiies - leaving no one behind.  Will you walk with us?

A Journey Like Us Exhibit at FaithAction!       Congrats to the Northeast High School students who courageously shared their stories and portraits for A Journey Like Us, led by human rights artist and educator, Todd Drake.  The exhibit, funded by the NC Arts Council and supported by FaithAction, is now proudly on display at FaithAction, and will be shared with Guilford County School teachers and administration as a tool to gain deeper understanding and appreciation of our tremendous student diversity and the immigrant experience in Guilford County schools.
FaithAction Health Center Transitioning!   Two years ago, a wonderful group of local physicians, nurses, volunteer intepreters, student interns, and FaithAction staff responded to an urgent need in our community and began a health clinic for our newest immigrant neighbors in a small house provided by Holy Trinity Episcopal Church.  Our goal was to provide culturally sensitive health services with dignity to immigrants who do not have access to health insurance.  Over the next two years, nearly 350 patients from over 20 different nations were provided life affirming, and in some cases life saving services through the hard work and outstanding collaboration of this dedicated group.  Now, the immigrant health center on Simpson street will transition to the official care of the Mustard Seed Clinic as this new health focused nonprofit takes root in our community.  We will certainly stay connected with the health center into the future, and continue to benefit from our cherised partnership with the Congregational Nurse program, supported by the Cone Health Foundation, through our outstanding nurse who provides care on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons at FaithAction.  Thank you to all who selflessly served the IAC health center - we are so grateful for your compassion and commitment.
