The nationally renowned and respected Lown Institute has recognized St. Luke’s for the third year in a row as the No.1 health system in Pennsylvania for fulfilling its charitable mission.

St. Luke’s is part of the 20% of non-profit hospitals nationwide and the only health system in the Lehigh Valley with a “fair share” surplus, meaning it spends more on charity care and community investments than it receives in tax breaks. St. Luke’s has also been recognized as 3^rd in the nation for social responsibility.

More than 30 pediatrics donors, physicians and administrators attended a donor recognition event at the St. Luke’s Pediatrics Specialty Center in Center Valley, the region’s first and only freestanding facility that provides over 19 pediatric specialties under one roof.

“When Jean and I were considering which organizations to philanthropically support, St. Luke’s kept surfacing to the top of our list. We are pleased to join in their mission to provide the best care and service to the youngest members of our community,” says St. Luke’s donor Mike Grabarits.

“Our donors’ generosity has enabled us to enhance our facilities, invest in cutting-edge technology, and support the next generation of pediatricians. This is transforming pediatric care, and their contributions have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of our young patients and their families,” adds Dr. Jennifer Janco, Chair of Pediatrics.

Over $128,000 was raised at the St. Luke’s 36th Annual Classic on the Green golf tournament, with proceeds benefitting the Temple/St. Luke’s Medical School Endowed Scholarship Fund.

“I see firsthand how the support of our donors is critical to both recruiting and retaining our students for the long-term,” says Shaden Eldakar-Hein, MD, MS, Senior Associate Dean of the Temple/St. Luke’s School of Medicine. “This support helps to provide all School of Medicine students scholarship funding for each of their four years.”

Although Joseph “Joe” and Roseanne “Penny” Beidler spent their lives traveling the world, nothing was more important to them than helping to make quality health care available to members of their own community. Upon their deaths, their estate gift of $1.5 million to St. Luke’s is now helping to ensure that graduate students and clinical leaders can begin, and sustain, their medical education.

“The Beidlers truly understood the value of medical education that keeps our students and care providers current and stimulated, and that keeps the best providers at St. Luke’s who bring their advanced knowledge directly to their patients,” said James P. Orlando, Ed.D, Chief Graduate Medical Education Officer.
