1 Kings 1:7-9
Adonijah conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they gave him their support.  But Zadok the priest, Benaiah son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei and Rei and David’s special guard did not join Adonijah.  Adonijah then sacrificed sheep, cattle and fattened calves at the Stone of Zoheleth near En Rogel. He invited all his brothers, the king’s sons, and all the royal officials of Judah,
New International Version (NIV)
God is not a Genie in a bottle who has to give us what we want.  But if God offered to give you anything, what would you request?  Solomon found himself as the heir apparent to David’s throne despite the scheming machinations of his brother Adonijah.

The hard moments in life often come when we get what we always wanted.  Here is Solomon, King of Israel, with a blank check from heaven.  He could ask for money, or prestige or wives.  He asks, instead, for help by praying, “Give me a discerning heart.”   God gives him more than he asks for, “a wise and discerning heart,” and so much more.

Imagine you were in charge of your whole world today.  What if God gave you what you wanted today?  Would it be enough for you?  How would you use it?  God loves us unconditionally.  With his blessings he asks us to walk in obedience to him.  Jesus said, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you . . .”

Pray with me:
Father, your divine power has given us everything we need today for life and godliness through the knowledge of Christ who called us by his own glory and goodness.  Help us to use your good gifts to do good for your glory alone.  We pray in Jesus’ name.  Amen.
This year we focus our Every Day with Jesus readings on Jesus’ story.  With references to Tallowood's Read Through the Bible in 2018 daily reading plan, let's focus our undivided attention on Jesus and follow where he lead. He will not fail. Neither will we!

Joyfully,
