Dear Traveler,
Where in the world did the summer go? The season went by so quickly here in Transylvania County — like a lush, sunny, beautiful dream. But, it’s not over just yet. September seems to hold on to some of the best of both summer and fall. A bit of greenery at higher elevations may give way to specks of color, but we still hold on to warm temperatures during the day. It’s a beautiful transition, and in the Land of Waterfalls, this month is especially magical.
On top of the gorgeous weather, we’ve also got a flurry of fun events happening this month, including live music, TED Talks, and arts events. Couple that with a waterfall hike, and that sounds like a perfect weekend to me!
Actually, I think I’ll make those plans right now. I’ve got to get my tickets!

What better way to celebrate the last few days of summer than with music in the mountains? The Mountain Song Festival is a two-day event held annually in September at the Brevard Music Center. This year’s lineup of noteworthy talents includes Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway, Tray Wellington Band, and Steep Canyon Rangers, just to name a few.

Downtown Brevard

Brevard Plein Air is a unique annual event that transforms Downtown Brevard into a vibrant hub of creativity for the week. Each year, 30 talented artists from across the country gather in Transylvania County to paint en plein air. The festival is also held in conjunction with the Annual Makers Market, a downtown street festival with fine art vendors, local makers, and delicious food.

Brevard College Porter Center

You’ve seen TED Talks online, but have you ever listened to one in person? Head out to the Porter Center on the campus of Brevard College to get this unique experience. As an audience member, you’ll get to be part of a live filming of this performance. There will be 11 TEDxBrevard speakers, live performances, and a community festival — a little something for everyone!
