A&M-San Antonio Researchers Lead Statewide Effort to Tackle Childhood Obesity |
The University received a $400,000 state grant to study how poverty, diet, and environmental factors contribute to childhood obesity among Mexican American youth. Led by Dr. Ravindranath Duggirala and Dr. Srinivas Mummidi, the project will analyze DNA methylation to reveal how social and environmental conditions influence gene activity and long-term health risks. Partnering with The Health Collaborative, the team hopes to translate scientific findings into community programs and policies that reduce health disparities and improve children’s well-being.
