BACK TO THE PROGRAM YEAR!   -Rev. Christina Leone-Tracy, senior minister
Every September, I love the transition to “back to school,” even though I don’t have a child in that age-range (yet!). Maybe it’s because I went to school for entirely too many years, I love the smell of new crayons, the feel of crisp air, and the energy in the air. This Sunday, September 15, we will kickoff our program year returning to two services at 9:00 am and 10:45 am each week. Full religious education programs will start up again for children and youth, including middle-school Our Whole Lives and UU Identity programs on Wednesday nights. Wellspring Wednesday began with a wonderful program this past week offered by our own Mary Ellyn Vicksta, and will continue each month on the second Wednesday. We’ll share more information in the Scroll and in services about other upcoming new or returning programs. This year our focus will be on “healing and wholeness.” As Unitarian Universalists, we believe that each one of us is worthy and whole just as we are. Even so, we also do the ongoing work throughout our lives of healing ourselves from the wounds of the world, and healing our communities and our world. Join us as we do this beautiful and meaningful work together! I can’t wait to see you at the Fellowship.
Upcoming Services
Sunday at 9:00 and 10:45 am
September 15
Healing and Wholeness by Rev. Christina Leone-Tracy
This year at the Fellowship we are going to be focusing on Healing-- Our world can sometimes be a hard place, and we all have wounds and scars from life! The purpose of our UU fellowship is to help each other live fully, deeply, and well, finding healing and wholeness in community and helping to heal our world. We'll explore this theme on this, the first Sunday back to two services (9:00am and 10:45am) by exploring the ancient Japanese art of kintsugi, or repairing broken pottery with beautiful gold.
September 22
Long Haul by Rev. Leah Hart-Landsberg
It’s easy to burnout in our current society, due to grief, trauma, worry, injustice, overstimulation, and more. So how do we keep showing up? The Age of Overwhelm: Strategies for the Long Haul by Laura van Dernoot Lipsky suggests that sometimes doing less is more. Whether or not you read the book or attended an all Fellowship discussion, join us for a service with practical tips about how to keep on keeping on.

At last weekend’s services, we collected $923.93 for the UUA Disaster Relief Fund. If you missed the opportunity to contribute please drop off or mail a check payable to Fox Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship with UUA Disaster Relief noted in the memo field, no later than Friday September 20, 2019. Your contribution will help the UUA respond to current disaster needs, as well as new emergency situations as they arise. Thank you for your support!
Religious Education
Religious Education for young people begins this weekend!
We will begin our program year classes this Sunday. All children will begin in the service with their families and be excused to their Religious Education classes after the Wonder Box. Classes for 7-8th graders and high school youth are during the 10:45 service only.
Registration forms are available HERE. We will also have laptops available in the entrance and the RE hallway for registering children on September 15 and 22.
We are excited to welcome all young people to learn in community with us!
Breakfast Club for Youth
We are excited to announce that we are changing our meeting times and location for Breakfast Club this year! Plan to meet with our Breakfast Club leaders outside of the sanctuary before the 10:45 service. At 10:40, the group will move to the sanctuary to sit together in the service. After the service, the group will move to the Brown Room for discussion about the service topic and snacks.n
We plan to meet weekly beginning on Sunday, Sept. 15. Can’t wait to see you there!
Quiet Sensory Space
During All ages services this year we will be providing a Quiet Sensory space for individuals young and old who like to keep their  hands busy as they listen and engage with the service.
Children are free to sit in the area, and parents are asked to sit nearby to assist with their child as needed. Our goal in providing this space is to help young people participate in our services as much as possible, yet have an area for quiet activities to keep them engaged. Parents are encouraged to model and mentor their children through the active elements of the service such as the chalice lighting words, singing hymns, observing quiet meditation, etc.
This is a work in progress, but the goal is for our community to more fully engage with one another as they are able.
Upcoming Programs
You are warmly welcome to join in a Pop-Up Choir performance of “Japanese Bowl” by Peter Mayer on Sunday, September 15. Lyrics and a recording are available on the Fellowship Choir page: https://fvuuf.org/fellowship-choir/ Come at 8:15 am to sing in the 9:00 am service, or 10:00 for the 10:45 am service. You are welcome to sing for either or both. This is also a great intergenerational opportunity for children and youth; they just need to be able to read text and rehearse for 20 minutes.
New Small Group: Express Yourself
Led by Fellowship Member Cindy Darling
Creating art together is a spiritual practice. This new small group aims to provide opportunities to create in a variety of ways together--we will move our bodies, we will manipulate paint, we will turn stones into art, we will play with words, and we will engage in the art of creating to music. There is so much to the idea of “art,” and this group aims to engage a bit with all of those aspects. Come to one activity or to all of them. No group membership required. Plus, no artistic skill required—and no supplies needed. Just bring an open mind and your creative spirit.

Painting Stones: Sunday, September 15, 1:00-3:00 pm
Painting stones has become all the rage! There is even a Facebook page devoted to finding and hiding rocks in the Fox Valley. Our first activity of this new small group will be painting stones at Cindy Darling’s home (weather permitting, in the backyard; if inside, Cindy has cats and steps at all entrances). All supplies will be supplied! Just bring your creativity. Call or text Cindy at 920.205.9635 to RSVP and to get the exact address (Kaukauna, area of 55/CE).
"I want that on a shirt..."

This is a limited edition store that will be available for only 4 weeks, please have your orders submitted by October 13th. If you see a design offered, but not on the shirt type you want let us know. Talk to an Outreach Team member (Amanda Kramp, Andrew Kramp or Eric Verhagen) or email Eric at fvuuf@verhagen.us.
We are working to have sample shirts for you to try on so you can be sure to order the right size. Once we have them, they will be in the Fellowship Hall after services on Sundays.
The Outreach Team would like to thank everyone who took the time to share their feedback on our shirt designs, including those with special requests, and a special thank you to Liv Herrick for her “Celebrate our Differences” design that will be available for all ages.
Class offering:  “White People’s Work”
with Rev. Christina Leone-Tracy and Brian Looker
Tuesday, September 24th,  6:00-8:00 pm
In our quest to fully live out our UU values, we know that tackling racism is an important part of our spiritual practice. But people who identify as white need to be doing the most work in unlearning and dismantling the harmful effects of systemic racism. Join Fellowship member Brian Looker and Rev. Christina for a two hour class to start doing this important work together. This class is particularly geared toward white folks, but anyone is welcome.
(Optional reading in advance: White Fragility by Robin DiAngelo, which will also be available soon in our Fellowship bookstore, and in the Black Lives Matter lending library for borrowing.)
Sign up for childcare online HERE or at the Sign Up Spot at the Fellowship. We need at least one child signed up 24 hours in advance in order to have childcare.

FALL ART THEME
The theme for our next art show will be “The Healing Power of Art.” Anyone who has a piece of art that they find healing either by having created it or by the simple act of enjoying it is invited to share it with the Fellowship for a few months. It need not be your original art but anything that you have found that brings peace to your soul. It needs to be framed and ready to hang on the wall.  We don’t have spaces for objects. The art committee will be hanging the display on September 30th. Please make sure your pieces are labeled on the back with the title and the owner’s name and are delivered to the Fellowship by noon that day. If you need to bring them in beforehand, please contact Cyndi in the office at cyndi@fvuuf.org. Anyone who currently has art on display is asked to remove it at that time. Also, if you are interested in being a part of the art committee, please contact Mary Gerlach gerlachmz@new.rr.com. We can always use more help hanging the shows and expanding the roll of art at the Fellowship.
