you're the best!
you're the best!
Thank You!
Hello Bike Count Volunteers!
We wanted to take one last opportunity to thank you all for your tremendous dedication to Portland's 2016 Bike Count this summer. You are truly amazing!
This year we collectively counted bikes at 257 intersections - blasting last year's record 236 sites. This includes 18 brand new sites that had never been counted. Wow!!
In total, we tallied 46,639 people on bikes - that's more than the population of Caribbean island nation Sint Maarten, a constituent country of the Netherlands!
This year 71 sites saw their highest count since the dawn of bike counts (er, around the year 2000). That's a whopping 28% of all count sites!
So please pat yourself on the back and know that each of those 514 count hours is very much appreciated.
And now what you've all been waiting for, a few special recognitions for some very special volunteers...
Yellow Jersey Volunteer of the Year (most sites counted)
Dennis Delore
18 completed counts!
And also a special thank you to runners-up Duane Wong (16 counts completed) and Scott Jaqua (10 counts completed)!
This elite group not only raised the bar incredibly high for next year, but also conducted 17% of all counts, tallying 14% of all bikes counted!

That is a lot of bikes - nearly 8% of all bikes counted!

Duane Wong
1 bike counted at SE Flavel & Deardorf!
And thanks to the runner-up Vickie Clay, who counted just 5 bikes at SW Hamilton & 45th and 6 bikes at SW Troy & Capitol Hill Rd.

Janis McDonald
with this comment from N Skidmore & Michigan:
"I had a rabbit, a polar bear, and a tiger pass by me on bikes. But don't worry, they were all wearing helmets."
Just another day riding around Portland!
High Score Heroes
Everyone (because we all win when more people bike!)
And one last thank you to all 109 of you with busy, crowded, noisy, smelly, unruly, uneventful counts that nevertheless stuck it out to the finish!
