Board Spotlight
Melva Tate
I fell in love with UCP the day I walked on campus and was drawn in by the positive energy, welcoming smiles and compassionate staff.  There are so many areas within the organization that I’m proud of and that make a significant impact in the lives of the children, adults and parents we serve. If I had to pick one, I would highlight UCP’s Employment Services.  As the owner of a human resource and career development firm, my life’s mission is to help cultivate people and the places they work.  Our mission and UCP’s are equally aligned in doing everything possible to help individuals, especially those with a disability, find and have success in the job of their dreams.
Did you know?
UCP of Greater Birmingham's Childcare Enhancement with a Purpose program provided training and support last year to 492 teachers in our community equiping them to better serve children with special needs.
THANK YOU for making this possible!
What People Are Saying...
After an automobile accident left me with a severe closed head injury my Junior year of high school, Dr. Law was the first physician to speak directly to me as a person. He gave me the encouragement and inspiration I needed to see a bright future.  WIth his help, I learned to walk again, graduated high school and college, got married and had a beautiful baby.
Ashton Askew - Ten year patient of Dr. Charles Law, UCP of Greater Birmingham Chief Medical Officer and Director of the Life Without Limits Clinic
Evan Majewski - Living Life Without Limits
UCP’s Hand In Hand Early Intervention and Early Learning graduate, Evan Majewski, recently paid a special visit to campus. He was greeted enthusiastically with big smiles and warm hugs from UCP staff who first met him when he was 13 months old.  Now a proud graduate of Calera High School and a college student, he is truly living life without limits. His story is both amazing and encouraging.  Click here to learn more about this incredible young man.
Program Spotlight - Life Without Limits Outpatient Therapy Clinic
Located on our main campus, UCP of Greater Birmingham’s Life Without Limits Outpatient Therapy Program provides one centralized location where a variety of developmental needs are met for children birth through 14 years old through occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy. As an added benefit, our multi-disciplinary team of eight therapists are specially trained in pediatrics.
Our staff provides holistic care that focuses on both the child and the family unit. Parent training is an integral part of the therapy sessions. Last year, almost 4,000 therapy sessions were conducted with 270 patients receiving outpatient services through the Clinic.  Click here to learn more about this important program that YOU help make possible for the children we serve.
Ask The Expert: Creating a Path to Employment for Your Children
- by Stacey Miller, CESP, Manager of Employment Services for UCP of Greater Birmingham

Did you know that through collaborative efforts and donor support, UCP of Greater Birmingham helped 294 adults with disabilities in their journey towards meaningful employment last year?  Stacey Miller, Manager of Employment Services, provides insight helpful to all parents on creating a path to employment for your children.
There are many benefits of work, and for most of us, work is part of our identity. When we work we feel good about having a job, we often see ourselves in a more positive way and our work provides structure and daily routines. The income we earn on a job gives us more choices about what to buy, where to live, and gives us a chance to build savings; income helps us gain our independence. Helping your children to become employable adults is not something typically taught in schools. Parents are very influential in helping their children grow to be successful working adults.  Click here to read more.
