HPAC 2025 is Coming!
The purpose of GW’s Health Professions Advisory Committee (HPAC) is to help applicants with the application process for health professional schools that accept a committee packet as part of their application process (generally medical, dental, veterinary, or podiatry school).
The HPAC Website will be updated by November 7, 2024, but you can still view the information for last year's HPAC until then. Updates may include, but are not limited to, forms, links, and dates.
HPAC Info Session (Recommended).
For HPAC 2025, the Info Session is recommended, but NOT required. The online Info Session help guide you through all of the components of HPAC and, by extension, your health professional school applications. It will lead you through the various components of the HPAC process.

Early Selection Program Information Session

GWSMHS will host an EARLY SELECTION PROGRAM Information Session on Wednesday, December 4th, 2024, from 12pm – 1pm in Ross Hall Room 117.
This session is open to all GW freshmen and sophomores interested in the Early Selection Program. We will discuss the application process, prerequisites and admissions process. Also, we continue to require SAT/ACT scores to apply.

The MV3 Foundation is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that guides, inspires, and invests in the development of Black undergraduate scholars across the United States. Our mission is anchored in three core pillars: Education, Service, and Advocacy. Through these pillars, we aim to develop future leaders who will make impactful contributions to the fields of health and biomedical sciences. Our program is offered to scholars at no charge. Yes, it is completely FREE :).
What We Offer: MV3 Scholars benefit from individual mentorship, academic support, and professional development. They also gain access to a national network of like-minded peers, scholarships, and other opportunities designed to enhance their academic journey and future careers.
Who Can Apply: The MV3 Scholars Program is open to all Black students who will be or is currently enrolled in a U.S. undergraduate institution who are seeking entrance into healthcare and biomedical science professions during the year of the current application.

CULI 1810 – Fundamentals of Culinary Medicine
Are you interested in taking a unique elective course at GW's School of Medicine in Spring 2025? The GW School of Medicine has a new teaching kitchen and a great course!
CULI 1810: Fundamentals of Culinary Medicine
Fundamentals of Culinary Medicine teaches students the practical skills to realistically apply nutrition concepts to impact their own life and those around them though great tasting food that happens to be good for them. This course provides a comprehensive overview of nutrition and application of nutrition principles through culinary medicine. The course includes hands-on cooking classes, didactic lectures, guest speakers and field trips. Topics covered include basic nutrition concepts, evaluating research, recipe development and modification, food security and barriers to healthy eating, inflammation and an anti-inflammatory diet, food allergies and intolerances, and food policy.
Classes are held in-person at the Seva Teaching Kitchen. The course will include hands-on cooking sessions, didactic lectures, guest speakers, and field trips. The course is a Lecture / Lab series. For the Spring 2025 semester lectures are held most but not all Tuesdays from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM.
The course is appropriate for undergraduate students who are interested in learning about and improving their own, culinary skills, nutrition literacy, and/or health and for students seeking careers in medicine, health, and nutrition.

Medical Career Design Fellowship
Children's Hospital of Philadelphia & Penn Perelman School of Medicine
The Orthopedic Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) funds a select number of Medical Career Design (MCD) Fellowships to allow recent college graduates the opportunity to explore many aspects of a medical career — research, clinical practice, education, advocacy and leadership.
Each MCD fellow spends two years as an essential member of our research and clinical teams, mentored by our thought-leading faculty from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. CHOP’s Orthopedic Center is consistently ranked among the best pediatric orthopedic programs in the nation by U.S. News and World Report.
MCD fellow applicants will be completing a BA/BS degree, pre-medical and commit for two gap years between college and med school. The student must be in good academic standing and have an interest in pursuing a career in Orthopedic Surgery. The successful applicant will be responsible, motivated, intellectually curious and independent. An MCAT score, biostatistics training and research experience are strongly valued, but not mandatory.
Each fellow will be provided an annual stipend of $45,000 in year one and $50,000 in year two and will be provided with up to $5,000 of travel support annually to attend and participate in scientific presentations at regional and national meetings. A minimum two-year commitment is required. Fellows will also receive 12 vacation days per year, in addition to CHOP-designed national holidays.
Each fellow’s official start date will be determined by the Division of Orthopedic Surgery at the time of receiving an offer. The start date will be no later than June 16, 2025, with the exception of students enrolled in late spring or summer coursework. The official start date may be within two weeks of college graduation to facilitate the transition between incoming and outgoing MCD fellows. The fellowship will culminate no earlier than June 30, two years after inception. Applications will be considered on a rolling basis through Match 1st, 2025.

Research Opportunity
Empower Through Health | Yale School of Medicine
Global Health Experiential Fellowship is a 5-week global health research opportunity with the opportunity to conduct global health research in collaboration with Ugandan master’s and bachelor’s students under Yale School of Medicine mentors Dr. Robert Rosenheck and Dr. Yang Jae Lee. This rigorous program has gained recognition as a gold-standard in global health education. Its impact is highlighted in a forthcoming paper under review in the Annals of Global Health, co-authored by global health leaders such as Dr. Brandon Kohrt, Dr. Robert Rohrbaugh, and Dr. Peter Waiswa. Over the past two years of the fellowship, over 80% of participating fellows have or will become co-authors of a peer-reviewed scientific article; some examples can be found here, here, and here. Fellows will develop transferable skills useful in all fields, but particularly in medicine, research, and public health. Duties:
Bringing patients to the rooms, collecting medical information, and preparing them for examination.
Scribing the visit using our electronic medical record.
Assisting with office procedures: Biopsies, injections, excisions, cosmetic procedures and others.
Collecting and routing laboratory specimens.
Keeping supplies ready by placing orders and verifying receipt.
Cleaning, sterilizing and preparing instruments per protocol.
Securing patient information and maintaining patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records.
Updating job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
Adhering to professional standards, office policies and procedures.
Using computer applications.
Helping patients by providing information, services, and assistance.
Filling out insurance forms and prior authorizations.
Relaying patient instructions as directed by the physician.
Transmitting prescriptions as directed.
Removing sutures and changing dressings.
Checking voicemails, phone calls, and emails throughout the day. All must be taken care of and updated in the electronic medical record by the end of shift.
Other duties as assigned
This position begins in early December. Salary is based on experience, starting at $16/hour if the candidate has minimal prior experience.
