June 18, 2021Marie's Message
Hi All, Summer programs are back in full swing. Dodge County is hosting the WI State Horse Association Educational Events and Area Animal Science Days is hosted by Jefferson County. Good luck to the teams and individuals competing at both of those events next week.
Last week was the Dodge County 4-H Leaders Association meeting, There were updates from the fair that will be included in this issue of the Focus. There was also discussion about the fall plans, especially regarding record books.
There are some clubs that make the record book achievement look different than the traditional paper record book, such as an interview process or members choosing to send to the county or just not sending to the county just for a club review. These alternative options seem to be of the popular opinion with the clubs present in the room. The decision was made that the county 4-H Leader's Association will still only do overall achievement record books. Each club can submit as many record books as they want for overall achievement, as long as they meet the requirements. Clubs are able to make their own decision about how end of year record books may look in their clubs.
The other item was signing up for Fair help in the 4-H Booths and Food Stands. Please see the links to volunteer for a variety of shifts in:
- 4-H Promotion Booth
- 4-H Fish Pond
- 4-H Cream Puff Stand
- 4-H/Farm Bureau Food Stand
- WWA (WI Women for AG) Food Stand (*Dairy & Livestock Youth are eligible for 1 point on their Educational Cards when working a shift in the WWA Food Stand)
- Youth Building Supervisors
There is a position open for Dairy Promotion manager for the WI State Fair with $1,500 compensation. The qualifications are that they need to be 21 years old and be able to work with people. Let Marie know if interested in that position.
Is your club participating in a parade this year? Check out the Wisconsin 4-H Parade Policy Requirements. As a reminder, adults who are planning on driving a vehicle in a parade need to be an authorized driver with UW Madison Division of Extension. To become an authorized driver, please contact Marie for more information.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Marie Witzel 4-H Youth Development Educator marie.witzel@wisc.edu 920-210-3080 I am following Wisconsin Department of Health Services, UW-Madison, and federal guidelines due to the COVID-19 virus outbreak. I am working remotely and am also available by phone at 920-210-3080.

Then spend part of your afternoon creating a splash by fishing along the river. This program is for all abilities. Upham staff will provide instruction and equipment. Lake Delton Parks & Recreation has fishing poles available for youth to take home with them (contact Abby Schultz, reccoordinator@dellsparkandrec.com for details or to pick one up!). REGISTER HERE

Nominations Open for 4-H Executive Board & 4-H Endowment Committee
Encourage club volunteers and youth members to serve on these leadership Boards! The 4-H Executive Board members can only serve for two terms at a time, with a total of four years. There are four vacant spots for the board next year and four vacant spots for the youth next year. This rule is put in place so that the same people are not serving the board and new opinions are being put out there. The youth have to be in 7th grade or higher in order to be nominated.

Hats Off...
to Vivian Lichty (Hyland Prairie) who received a blue and a county Best of Show award at the 4-H Virtual Fashion Revue with a tent-style, scoop neckline summer dress and accessorized with flowers in her hair and a butterfly necklace. The blue, tie-die rayon/silk-blend fabric was a challenging choice for Vivian as it snags easily during the sewing process. She will be receiving a certificate and a $25 gift card to JoAnn Fabrics. Congratulations Vivien!

They can be printed out already in color, or printed in black and white for 4-Hers to creatively color and decorate.
Here’s what we need from you:
From NOW until September 15, 4-H youth and families can share how they or their clubs live out the Wisconsin 4-H Movement with Chris Clover.
Check out the Chris Clover Intro video HERE!
Details: Open to all Wisconsin 4-H members, clubs and groups. Each individual, club or group can enter up to six submissions - one submission per 4-H Movement Value. 4-H SILENT AUCTION
The Fair will be the same as it has been in years past. For the Silent Auction at the fair, only 4-H Club baskets will be auctioned. If the club could bring the basket to the Youth Building on the Monday or Tuesday of the Fair, that would be great.
STOCK THE POND! FISH POND PRIZES NEEDEDDonations of small prizes are needed for the 4-H Fish Pond.
A couple of clubs have brought in prizes already, but we cannot have water guns. There are a lot of items that are geared mainly towards girls. There is a need for prizes that are gender neutral and for boys. If people are willing to take things home and wrap that will save time for Janet.
Questions or monetary donations for Fish Pond can go to Janet Zander at 920-382-9499
