What level of safety should I expect in my Field Placement?
Please note that COVID-19 health and safety protocols for each Field placement agency may differ from those of NYU and from agency to agency, given that each has their own contexts and clientele. All agencies, however, are expected to adhere to New York State and City COVID-19 health and safety policies.
Will my placement be in-person, remote, or hybrid?
At this time, it is likely that a majority of students will continue to engage in in-person Field placement settings and regular assignments throughout the Spring semester.
Who should I contact about questions/concerns regarding in-person Field?
If you have questions and/or concerns regarding in-person activity at your Field placement, please email your Field Instructor (copying your Practice Instructor/Faculty Advisor) as soon as possible about these questions.
Practice Instructors/Faculty Advisors have been asked to assist students in discussions with Field Instructors and agencies about any questions or concerns you may have at this time and have been provided guidance on this process from Silver’s Field leadership. Please note that, depending upon the agency, some may be able to accommodate temporarily remote or hybrid placements based on client and community need, and some may be unable to do so.
All students should work closely with Field Instructors and Practice Instructors/Faculty Advisors to work out plans that respect the health, safety, ethical and professional commitments to clients and communities, while also attending to students’ safety and health concerns.
What if my agency is no longer able to provide Field Learning?
In the event that an agency
no longer has the capacity to continue as a Field learning site, please know that we are working on options to ensure that students will be able to complete their Field education.
What if my agency is able to continue providing Field learning, but I do not want to return?
In the event that an agency
does have the capacity to continue as a Field learning site, and the student
declines to continue with the placement, students will explore academic plan options (e.g. leave of absence or delaying Field and Practice) with Professor de Leon.
What if I test positive for COVID-19?
If you test positive for COVID-19, you must notify the NYU COVID-19 Prevention & Response team and follow their guidance. We also recommend that you alert your supervisor at your agency, your Field Instructor, and your Practice Instructor/Faculty Advisor.
